Fleeing from the war that has raged on the planet Cybertron for millions of years, the heroic Autobots led by Optimus Prime encounter a surprise attack by the evil Decepticons led by Megatron. The ensuing melee aboard the Autobot ship ends when the ship crashes on a volcano. Four million years later, an earthquake reactivates the ship's computer and resurrects both the Autobots and Decepticons, resuming the great war of the Transformers. (Source: AniDB)

In search of energy now that planet Cybertron has finally been drained, the Cybertrons (Autobots in English version) must leave Cybertron and venture to other worlds in search for energy, but to make matters worse, they are also pursued by the Destrons (Decepticons in English version), who are also seeking energy themselves if they are to win the war against the Cybertrons.

The Cybertrons (Autobots in US release) has created the Dinobots, but can barely control these new powerful warriors. Note: This is originally episode 8 in US broadcast. The original episode 7 in US broadcast became episode 62 in Japanese broadcast. This was done as it featured Skyfire prominently and with his toy being of Bandai design (and not sold in Japan as a Transformer), that caused some legal concerns amongst Takara (many of Skyfire's smaller scenes in other episodes were cut entirely). Though the episodes featuring him as a main character were eventually shown, the scripts were not reworked to adjust to the new chronological placement, simply being more or less direct translations of the original English versions.

Note: In the original US broadcast, this was episode 14 and served as the epilogue to episodes 11-13 in US broadcast (episodes 66-68 in Japanese broadcast). The Japanese release had some reordering due to some issue with the toy of Skyfire being of Bandai design (and not sold in Japan as a Transformer), which caused some legal concerns amongst Takara. Several missing episodes that had Skyfire present as a main character were eventually shown near end of the series.
Megatron challenges Convoy (Optimus Prime in US version) to a one on one battle to end the war. This episode was originally episode 16 in US Transformers G1 broadcast, while episode 15 in US broadcast became episode 64 in Japanese broadcast due to legal issues with the toy of Slyfire as noted in previous episode infos.
