A patient has analgesia, an inability to feel pain. While Hazama and Maiko investigate the cause they have a chance encounter with Yabu. Yabu's patient has something in common with Hazama's -- they were in same platoon. Hazama is certain the cause of their issues is related.

A renowned surgeon comes to Hazama and Maiko's university as a lecturer. Hazama recognizes him and requests to assist with Hyakki's research.
