Gou is Rin's younger sister. She is a 1st year student at Iwatobi High School. She has an easygoing and refreshing personality but is always worried about her brother, Rin. She joined the Swim Club as the manager in hopes that she, along with Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa and Rei, can help change Rin back to his old self. As the Iwatobi High School Swim Club's manager, Gou is quite efficient and supportive one, coming up with training routines for the team, searching for practice partners and finding out the opponent team's information. She dislikes to be called by her real name Gou and prefers to be called "Kou" (same kanji reading). Though she eventually gives up, mostly due to Nagisa always insistently calls her by her real name. Gou has a muscle fetish as she tends to blush around men when admiring their muscles.

Makoto Tachibana is Haruka's inseparable best friend in 11th grade. He understands Haruka's good points, and is often forced to speak as his spokesman. He is very kind and considerate, but is also very easily scared and weak-hearted. He is afraid of the ocean due to an incident that occurred when he was in elementary school. Chigusa is Gou's friend and also a 1st year student at Iwatobi High School. She is usually seen supporting the Swim Club at their tournaments. She and Gou often hang out together. Chigusa seems to be a very curious and inquisitive individual, since she cares a lot about Gou's relationship with Haruka, Makoto and Nagisa. She always forgets to address Gou as "Kou", which results in Gou getting upset and correcting her. Goro was the swimming coach at the abandoned Iwatobi Swimming Club, having coached Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa, and Rin while they were in grade school, and had since became a part-time pizza delivery man. He later resumes coaching Haruka, Makoto, and Nagisa, with the addition of Rei. He is normally very laid-back but can be incredibly strict with the Iwatobi boys when coaching.
