Lucy is a Diclonius girl around eighteen years old. She has developed strong emotions of hatred and vengeance towards regular humans mainly because of how she was treated by the majority of them as a child, making fun of her horns and giving her insulting nicknames such as freak. As a child, she bonded with a dog that was killed right in front of her by classmates, triggering her first killings. She loses all sense of empathy, killing without much concern, and acts somewhat sadistic, often torturing victims before killing them (such as Bandou and Nana, though she failed in killing them both). Towards the end of the series, however, she begins to show remorse for her actions, mainly towards Kohta, who lost his father and sister to her. Kohta was Lucy's childhood friend, though she didn't trust him when they first met. As they became friends, Lucy starts to have feelings towards him. She kills Kohta's father and sister out of jealousy when Kohta goes to a festival with his cousin Yuka, which causes Kohta immense mental trauma that makes him forget about her and his cousin. At the end of the manga it is revealed that her real name is Kaede. Coincidentally Kaede was also the name of the inn Kohta lived in, "Kaede/Maple Inn." She is aware of her "Nyu" state as revealed in the manga by her worries just before she reverts. "Lucy" is not actually her real name, but the name of her inner Diclonius killing instinct that wants to exterminate mankind, her real name is "Kaede."
Kana is the most mechanically inclined of the Haibane and spends much of her free time tinkering with machines, especially the clock tower at Old Home. She is fascinated by both the clock's intricate workings as well as the work notes mysteriously left behind by the clock's previous inhabitant. She is a bit of a tomboy, preferring a wrench to a needle any day. She is sometimes seems mean but all of her jokes are in good fun and she cares very much for her fellow Haibane.

She is known to take care of his personal garden while he is away and uses this as leverage over him. Appearance Alisha is a young girl with light hair that is kept in a ponytailtied with a ribbon. She wears a long-sleeved top with a short-sleeved shirt over it, a bow tie, a jagged skirt, large belt and high-heeled shoes. Story Alisha first appears when she informs Linda Cuthbert of Tasha's return, of his team up with Tarras and Xing and of his murder charge, much to the disbelief of Linda. Alisha appears again after Tarras learns he is to be dispatched to the East with Xing Bairong. She pokes him in the eyes as punishment for not helping with the compensation documents from lands he had destroyed and asks for his help in finishing them. Tarras refuses and boasts of his accomplishments but quickly backs down when Alisha reminds him she can destroy his garden while he is away.
