Cait Sith is fun-loving and playful, but cowardly and a poor fighter. He is an anthropomorphic remote-controlled plush toy cat standing just over three feet tall with short black fur and a white stomach and face. He wears a short red cape and white gloves and a small crown. Cait Sith does not possess any outward robotic features although he is still recognized as such. As he is merely a robot controlled by Reeve Tuesti, Cait Sith's character can be difficult to perceive. Cait Sith does act noticeably different from Reeve, in particular, his speech patterns are looser, and in the English versions he has a Scottish accent while Reeve does not, and in the japanese versions, he speaks with the unique accent of Reeve's original Kansai dialect. Cait Sith often refers to himself in the first person, and, as it would be impractical for Reeve to control Cait Sith directly all the time, he has a sort of artificial intelligence.

He will take on any mission to prove his worth to the Shinra company. Also popular among the women in Midgar, he soon gets his own fan club. Zack left his home town of Gongaga at the age of fourteen to join the Shinra Electric Power Company's military forces. He was promoted to Soldier 2nd Class sometime in the next two years. Unlike many Soldier members, he has a 1st Class mentor named Angeal Hewley. During the war against Wutai, Angeal vanished and later returned as Zack's enemy. Zack was then promoted to Soldier 1st Class at the age of sixteen. However, he could not feel happiness at the time, as he and Sephiroth were ordered to pursue former friends Angeal, and Genesis. After a twist of events, Angeal told Zack to fight him to protect his honor; to kill him, right before he had completely turned into a monster via "Project G." After their battle, Angeal regains his sanity and hands the Buster sword down to Zack in his dying moments. He encourages Zack to carry on both their dreams and honor. Zack's signature X-shaped scar on his cheek was given to him by Angeal in their battle. Sometime during his Soldier 2nd class days, Zack meets a girl named Aerith in the Church in the Slums. Their feelings begin to blossom over time and they become potential love interests. Aerith especially stayed by Zack's side as he mourned Angeal's death during the two years before he was actively working again. Although duty and antagonists get in the way of their relationship, Zack and Aerith often kept in contact. Even after Zack went missing for four years in Nibelheim, Aerith continued to write him letters. She sent a total of 89 letters within that time before she had finally given up. The ribbon that Aerith is always seen wearing in her hair was gifted by Zack during a date. It was also their mutual idea to start selling flowers in Midgar. Zack dies at the age of 23 while protecting a "mako poisoned" Cloud Strife from the Shinra Corporation, after escaping Nibelheim. The two were test subjects for four years after the Sephiroth incident, and were to be treated as "killed in action." Zack's final stand was against the entirety of Shinra's infantrymen, and he defeats all but three before finally exhausting his stamina. Left on the plains to die, in his final moments, he hands down the Buster Sword to the half-conscious Cloud, just as Angeal had done with him. He encourages him to be his "Living Legacy" and to live for the both of them; to carry on his dreams and honor. Professor Hojo is Sephiroth's biological father. He is responsible for the harm done to Vincent, Cloud and Sephiroth. He experimented on Vincent eventually sealing him away. Kadaj is the main villain for most of the movie. Along with his brothers Yazoo and Loz, he wants to find Jenova and absorb her cells so Sephiroth can return. The three of them are Sephiroth clones created by Hojo. Kadaj is violent and very skilled with his double bladed katana (the Souba).
Yazoo is the "middle child" out of three Remnants of Sephiroth (Loz is the oldest and Kadaj is the youngest), and is the calmest of the trio. He possess the aspects of Sephiroth's enigmatic allure and taunting opponents during battle. Yazoo also has a habit of sarcastically criticizing others, even Loz. It was Yazoo who gathered the GeoStigma infected children, their "Bloodhounds" for finding Jenova's head. Yazoo has a gun blade-style firearm called The Velvet Nightmare, which is a gun with a blade connected to it. He and Loz usually fought together as they battled Reno and Rude, and double-teamed Cloud on three occasions. After Sephiroth's demise, Yazoo and Loz began to fade from exposure to the Lifestream-induced rain caused by Aerith. However, using the Materia in their bodies as an anchor, the two intended in vain to take Cloud with them in an explosion of excessive materia atop Shin-Ra Corp building.
Presumed dead in Final Fantasy VII, Rufus returns in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Infected with Geostigma, Rufus asks for Cloud's help to rebuild Shin-Ra. He also hides Jenova's head from Kadaj for most of the movie until he decides to reveal himself.
