She is nicknamed Hecate, after her gun «PGM Ultima Ratio Hecate II», a .50 caliber anti-materiel and rare sniper rifle. She is one of the main characters of volumes five and six and first female player that Kirito meets in GGO. She plays GGO to overcome her trauma concerning guns. Calm and cool are two words that best describe Sinon's personality. In battle and most of the time in the game, she keeps a cool head that actually makes other female players admire her; however, Sinon has a violent temper once angered - something that is best seen with her interactions with Kirito. It is actually said that Kirito is the first one to make her extremely angry. Despite all this, Sinon, while may be hard to approach, is generally a friendly person and doesn't mind helping others. She becomes a Cait Sith archer in ALO where she is capable of hitting targets from 200m away despite her bow being limited to 100m. A friendly player that meets Kirito at the start of the game and quickly befriends and learns from him. He and Kirito later separate because he has friends who were also new to the game so he couldn't leave them. He survives for the past two years and managed to protect his friends the whole time, something Kirito regretted not doing. He is a katana user and the leader of the small guild Fuurinkazan who participates in the boss battles. As one of the few people close to Kirito, he always keeps him in check and wants Kirito to survive the game. He chose the Salamader race in Alfheim Online. In the side story Caliber, he fell in love at first sight with the girl on the cage named Freyja and agreed that he will help her find her tribe's treasure which is a hammer, though the decision still remains to be a team's decision. The team said yes on Caliber and it turned out that the girl they saved was Thor. It was revealed that Thor disguised as a beautiful girl to get close to Giant King Þrym and retrieve his hammer. Thor defeated Giant King Þrym and that stopped the medallion from being corrupted and ending the quest.
Suguha is Kazuto's adoptive sister in the real world, although later revealed to be his cousin. She is an accomplished kendo practitioner, having practiced for 8 years, following her grandfather's wishes. In ALO her avatar name is Leafa. Suguha originally disliked VRMMO games for it hid peoples' nature and reality, as it did with Kazuto. She took up ALO in order to understand Kazuto better when he was trapped in SAO. She won the Sylph tournament, earning the title as the strongest Sylph before the events of the Fairy Dance Arc. She learned how to play ALO from her classmate, Nagata Shinichi. Suguha has become very good at ALO, because of the many years she has practiced kendo and the skills learned there were very effective for fights in ALO. She enjoys flying in the game so much that Recon even nicknamed her as "Speed Holic."
She is 13 years old and a middle level dagger user. She is a very cheerful and sweet girl. She is one of the very rare "Beast Tamers" in SAO. She has a very rare familiar a "feathery dragon" that she named Pina after her cat in the real world. She treasured Pina a lot and was the reason she survived in the game. Aside from being a female player, she is also a Beast Tamer and thus perceived as an idol amongst the middle level players. She received endless invitations from parties and guilds who wanted an idol player to join them to get more fame. Because of the attention she got, she became overly proud of herself and left a party one time after a misunderstanding. She got surrounded by monsters and lost Pina in the end. She was then rescued by Kirito who was passing by and helped her to resurrect the dead familiar. Kirito then revealed after getting the revival item that he got close to Silica because she was targeted by the orange guild, Titan Hand. He received a request from a player to have this guild be put to prison after getting ambushed and his comrades got killed. After showing superiority in level, they surrendered and were sent to prison. She wanted to join Kirito in the front-lines but they had a huge level gap and she will not survive there. Kirito assured her that levels don't mean a thing as they are already friends. When she transferred her game account to ALFheim online she brought Pina with her. In ALFheim Online she chooses the Cait Sith race. After the SAO incident she is shown to go to school with Lisbeth, Asuna and Kirito and along with Lizbet makes a "pact" to allow Kirito and Asuna to have one month together without interference before they attempt their individual moves on Kirito due to their feelings for him.
A mace wielder that runs a blacksmith shop in Aincrad on the 48th floor. She made Asuna's rapier "Lament Light" and one day got a request from Kirito to make him a sword with similar or better quality than his one handed long sword "Elucidator" that he got from a monster drop. She told him that if she had the right materials she could make weapons that would break any sword, so they formed a party and went on a journey to find the material she needed. Because of that journey she came to the conclusion that she felt lonely and yearned for warmth. In ALO, she is Leprechaun race blacksmith. She comes to realize that she loves Kirito but after finding out that the one Asuna had feelings for was in fact Kirito she decided to give up on him despite how she feels so Asuna could express her feelings, however during the moments after Kirito's victory and SAO's announcement that the game has been cleared she shouts at the top of her lungs that she loves Kirito and that she will meet him again in the real world, which after the ALO incident she actually does, going to school with him and Asuna.

Being one of the few girls that are in SAO, and even more so that she's extremely pretty, she receives many invitations and proposals. She is a skilled player earning the title "Flash" for her extraordinary sword skill that is lightning fast. Her game alias is the same as her real world name. She is married to Kirito in SAO. They decide to live a peaceful life and to buy a house on the lower part of Aincrad and take a break from the guild Knights of the Blood Oath. But later they need to return to the front lines, abandoning their peaceful life. After the SAO incident, all the players that survived should have awoken, but Asuna is still trapped within her NerveGear. She is actually abducted by her betrothed, Sugou Naboyuki, who transfers her to Alfheim Online (ALO). In ALO, She is known as Queen Titania, yet she is only a character who is trapped within a cage that is programmed to be a unbreakable object. She was rescued by Kirito who became a Game Master by accessing Heathcliff's account, and defeated Sugou. Kirito logged Asuna off from ALO and rejoins her in the hospital after he ended his fight with Sugou in the real world.

Kirito is the protagonist of Sword Art Online. He is a "solo" player, a player who hasn't joined a guild and usually works alone. He is also one of the very few people to have had the privilege to play in the beta testing period of Sword Art Online. His game alias, Kirito, is created by taking the syllables of the first and last Kanji of his real last and first names respectively: (Kirigaya Kazuto). In the real world, he lives with his aunt and younger cousin in a family of 3. When Kayaba announced the start of the death game, he is surprised, but unlike everyone else he quickly gets over it and accepts it to an extent. He invited his friend Klein to go with him but Klein had to find his friends in the game. He was invited to join them but he declined as he couldn't take the pressure of protecting them even with his beta testing knowledge of the game. Kirito tends to use a single handed straight sword. The blade that he uses most often is the Elucidator. Later on he acquires a second blade called Dark Repulser that was made by his blacksmith friend, Lisbeth. He was the first one to be called a Beater, a combination of beta testing and cheater, as he had great knowledge of the game through the beta test period and showing great skills in floor clearing but chose not to help other players. He had it imposed on himself so as to differentiate the beta testers who were just picked in the testing and the serious gamers who uses the knowledge efficiently like a cheat. He has a unique skill called <<Dual Blades>> which allows him to dual wield two swords and use Swords Skills. It's the special skill designed for the Hero that defeats the Demon Lord at the last floor. He found it in his skills list after a year in the game. After nearly mastering it, he only uses it in emergencies to avoid attention for being one of the few people to have a unique skill. He befriends a girl by the name of Yuuki Asuna who later becomes his lover. In the 10th volume of the Accel World light novel and the 5th volume of the Accel World manga Kirito is featured in a special chapter, in which he fights Sliver Crow, the burst linker. In the chapter, Kirito is playing as his old SAO avatar, wielding the Elucidator and Dark Repulser.
