Being a shy, timid girl, Haruka is set up with Takayuki by her friend, Mitsuki, while she is in high school. The two quickly become close, and develop an intimate relationship. She takes in an interest in collecting picture books. Very early on in the series, she is involved in a serious car accident and ends up in a coma. The main thrust of the story begins when she awakens three years later. She is afflicted with anterograde amnesia, and because of her delicate psyche, her family and Takayuki conceal the truth that three years have passed, which forms much of the tension in the series. Takaaki is the main male character. Takaaki is childhood friends with Konomi and sees her as a younger sister. In the anime, it is noted that he has an aversion to most girls save for Konomi and Tamaki, mainly because of their childhood friendship. He is a kind young man who, despite his shy nature around girls, is often very kind to them when the situation arises.
Haruka's younger sister, She initially sees both Takayuki and Mitsuki as older siblings until she finds out they have been seeing each other behind Haruka's back. While Haruka is in the hospital, she visits every day since there is no one else that can keep her company, even if Haruka is in a coma. This shows just how much she loves her older sister. She, like Mitsuki, is a powerful swimmer in her own right, but feels as if she can never match Mitsuki. Her intense hatred towards Mitsuki after the accident can be attributed to the feeling of personal betrayal by someone she considered an idol for throwing away her (Mitsuki's) talent and dreams as well as Mitsuki's betrayal of her sister by her sexual relationship with Takayuki. Mitsuki is friends with both Takayuki and Haruka, but secretly she has feelings for Takayuki. In high school she was a competitive swimmer, but shortly after Haruka's accident, she finds herself leaving swimming to tend to Takayuki. She throws herself at Takayuki when he fails to climb out of his depression, and reveals her feelings for him. Mitsuki is well-meaning, but suppresses her feelings, allowing them to bottle up and explode in dangerous ways. Wendy can eat air, but can't heal as well in polluted areas. Her magic allows her to heal people from the most serious of injuries, even those caused by a dragon, allowing her to use even a kiss to heal other people and can even counteract other magic; however, there seems to be a limit to how much she can use.
Juvia made up 1/4th of the Phantom Lord's elite group, Element 4. She was sent by the guild master Jose, along with Sol, to go and capture Lucy and bring her back to him safely. Her magic seems to deal with water as she is able to control rain and other large bodies of water. In addition, her body is formed of water, leaving her intact and able to reform herself after attacks. Her nickname is also Juvia of the Sea, which correlates with her water controlling magic. When angry she can also control hot water. Juvia also often refers to herself in the 3rd person. Juvia has developed a deep love for Gray, and due to a misunderstanding, views Lucy as her rival in love. After being defeated by Gray, the rain above her finally clears up which she thought was beautiful. After the fight, her deep infatuation with Gray continues,and she secretly followed him when she was unsure of approaching him. In the Tower of Heaven arc, she mentions to Gray that she is now an independent mage once more, but Gray notes that she has probably has her eyes set on Fairy Tail. She is quite willing to do anything for him. When Juvia is upset rain surrounds her. She is the only member of the Element 4 to be shown after the Phantom Guild arc. Wendy found her as an egg and they have been together ever since. They are very close and Carla sees it as her duty to protect Wendy from danger. Charlés is actually a magical creature, called Exceed, that comes from the world Edolas. The official reason for the Baby-Exceed to be sent to Earthland is to kill the Dragon Slayers. As it turns out, the real reason was to protect them from the destruction of Edolas and the Exceed-kingdom of Extalia. It is also later discovered that she is the Exceed's princess, daughter of Queen Shagotte and as such she possesses the same power as her mother: prevision. Due to that, she always knew of the pretense mission of the Exceed in Earthland and believed it to be her actual mission; to kill Wendy. This causes her a lot of stress and psychological pain during the Edolas arc. Her personality is strict and straight. She disapproves of fooling around. Towards Happy she is very cold at the beginning but starts to soften over time. Especially during the Edolas arc has their relationship improved.
