A girl described to be tall and very beautiful, she looks more mature than her real age. She is a no rank combat member from Central SEPB. Although being a rare "Fusion type" Mushitsuki, she lacks direct offensive method against others, but can travel at extremely high speed and makes maneuver that is impossible for other Mushitsuki to do in the sky. She is the protagonist for volume 3 of the novel. Her wish is to take revenge on Central SEPB that destroyed and burnt down her home town—the remote island of Aoharima—during an operation to capture "Sanbikime." She held a strong personal grudge against Miguruma Yaeko who ordered the operation. In volume 3, she helped Shiika to escape Central SEPB to fulfill Shiika's wish, and traveled with a middle school girl, Ebina Yuu, who involved into the whole conflicts by accident. During the escape, she outwitted all combatants sent by Central SEPB (including Kasuo) to kill her. Her reason to rescue Shiika is to use her power to take revenge on SEPB, but Shiika refused, this enraged Ubuki, broke her hope and almost caused her to dump Shiika and Yuu, but Shiika convinced her and gives her new dreams to rebuild the island. She was last seen to act as a decoy to save time for Shiika and Yuu to reach their goals. She was shoot down by Yaeko, but saved by Daisuke who just arrived in time. In volume 4, she is seen under the protection of East Central SEPB branch. She assisted Daisuke to capture "Honoka." In volume 5, she escaped SEPB again and act with Chami and Chiharu since then. In volume 8, she also saved Kirara during an assassination attempted by Central SEPB. She was "killed" by Shiika before the last battle against "C," for her using too much power and her bug was about to turn into mature state. After the battle, she was confirmed being the only successful case revived from her fallen state with Chiharu's (Aria's) help. She was last seen joyfully revolving in the sky over Aoharima Island while observing the rebuilding process.

He once was a delinquent but when Kodama became his roommate, he was changed by him and now uses his punches to protect Kodama. He confessed to Kodama and they started dating. Before Kodama, he did have other girlfriends. Rutta is also very athletic, helping his class during the Sports Festival and deciding to become a P.E. Teacher in the future. He trained with Kodama every morning and evening. His familiy is rich but except his father he dislikes them all which is why he stays at the dorms. He is quite popular with the girls and often gets confessed to, however he always rejects them with the words "I'm already dating someone. And this person is really important to me."
The main heroine of Mushi-Uta Bug, she is the ojousama from Ichinokuro corporation, and the sole friend of Hanashiro Mari. After Mari had passed away, she inherited Mari's bug—a silver Morpho butterfly. Daisuke is sent by SEPB to monitor her for this unusual phenomenon.<br><br>She uses an iron stick as her weapon. When threat is approaching the butterfly would fuse with the stick and gives her devastating power. However, the power she can control is much weaker than that of Mari's.<br><br>She believes that people possessed by the bugs are no different than ordinary human so should be treat equally, and usually comes in conflict with Daisuke when dealing with a possessed opponent.<br><br><span class="spoiler">It turned out that Mari did not want to die and moved her personalty to her bug. At times Mari may use Arisu as the host to show her own personalty and skills, while Arisu would completely lost her conscious at the same time. Right before "meteor night", Mari's conscious became so strong that Arisu is almost replaced, but she was welling to let Mari take over her body. Mari changed her mind at last moment and wanted Arisu to live, gave up the life of herself.</span><br><span class="spoiler">At the last battle of "meteor night" in Bug Vol.8, Arisu revealed her dream to be "to save all Mushitsuki" to Oogui and finally becomes a Mushitsuki herself, she inherent the Morpho butterfly and can uses its full power. At the end of the battle, she sacrificed herself to seal the "Undead Mushitsuki" - Ichiku Kimitaka, and leaves a slim hope for Daisuke and others to defeat Oogui and save all Mushitsuki in the future. She is constantly referred as "Sleeping Beauty" in the main stories of the novel.</span><br><span class="spoiler">She is awaken by Harukiyo in the Vol.12 of the main story, but seem to lost her reasons and starts an indiscriminate attack. Harukiyo, at the cost of almost turning his bug into mature state, was finally able to knock Arisu back to her unconscious state and taking her out to really wake her up.</span><br><span class="spoiler">During the two years of sleep, Arisu had witnessed Mushitsuki's losing battle through Morpho Butterfly's eyes. In fear of losing all the hopes and can't taking the truth when wake up, Arisu escaped to the deep level of consciousness and mixed up with Mari's consciousness, used it as a weapon to defend her. Later, she was finally waken up by Daisuke's consciousness. Although mind not fully recovered and was unable to speak or interact with Daisuke, she was able to fight and helped to defeat C and Oogui.</span><br><span class="spoiler">She was last mentioned being slowly recovered from mind loss.</span><br>She is voiced by Nana Mizuki in the Drama CD adaptation.
Rui is the younger sister of Michiru Munakata. Like her big sister, she works as a miko in-house temple and apparently can also see supernatural beings.
