Kaburagi, nicknamed Wild Tiger, is one of the series' main protagonists and a veteran hero whose lack of regard for collateral damage when fighting crime had earned him the nickname the "Crusher for Justice" for the wrong reasons by the public. He starts the series as one of the least popular heroes of Sternbild City, but he seems to care more about helping the people in the city he helps than earning ratings, points, or fame. At the age of 10, he was present during an attempted bank robbery which was foiled by the veteran hero Mr. Legend. One of the criminals took Kotetsu hostage and the latter activated his NEXT powers out of stress and fear, sending his captor flying across the room. Kotetsu believed that anyone who touched him while his power was active would be hurt, but Mr. Legend convinced him otherwise and told him that his power was meant to save people. This encounter with Mr. Legend inspired Kotetsu to later become a hero himself. Ten months after the incident with Jake, Wild Tiger and Barnaby have become both well-known and popular. Additionally, their relationship has greatly improved and Lloyds is now adamant that Kotetsu not even consider quitting being a hero. As a result of their new popularity, the duo becomes the focus of numerous photoshoots and TV appearances, which Lloyds often prioritizes over actual hero work. They even end up performing alongside Blue Rose in a live concert. During said concert, when a criminal steals Blue Rose's bag, Kotetsu's usual Hundred Power seems to gain a boost in strength as he finds himself running faster and jumping farther than he would usually. Subsequent uses of his power run out before the 5-minute time limit. The reason why Kotetsu doesn't want to quit being a hero despite being in his late 30's and having a daughter as well is because he made a promise to his wife, Tomoe, that he will never stop being a hero. Later on, he gets mistaken for a criminal and framed due to Albert Maverick's NEXT power. MAJOR SPOILER The pair soon learns that the other heroes (and Kaede) were defeated and taken captive, courtesy of a call from Maverick. It takes considerable effort for Kotetsu to retain any sense of calm with his daughter in danger. He and Barnaby travel to Justice Tower to confront Maverick, but end up being forced to battle the extremely powerful android H-01 against which they have very little chance of winning. Ultimately, Kotetsu is able to get behind H-01 and immobilize it by holding it in place. He shouts at Barnaby to shoot them both, with the assumption that he will survive the blast thanks to his Hundred Power or jump out of the way at the last second. After some hesitation, Barnaby shoots using H-01's own laser gun and the android is destroyed. Kotetsu "death." Unfortunately, Kotetsu's power had run out just before the beam hit and he suffered severe injuries. After a short scene where Kotetsu reveals his gradual power loss and Barnaby breaks down in tears, Kotetsu seemingly dies in Barnaby's arms right as the other heroes and Kaede arrive. Some time later, after the other heroes have chased Maverick into a corner, he takes Kaede hostage with a gun to her head. Suddenly, a figure lurches at him from the shadows and Kotetsu punches him square across the jaw. The other heroes are stunned, and Kotetsu says a corny re-entrance line before stating that he had only fainted from the pain - adding it was something Barnaby would have realized by checking his pulse. Brago is a teenaged mamono with a rough, antisocial attitude. Not much is revealed about his life or personality, other than he resents weakness and especially requiring a human's help to win the demon kingship. He is extremely strong, often defeating other mamono teams without even requiring the use of spells. His personality softens a bit after meeting with Sherry; Brago is even seen helping a human child. He continues to look down on weaker opponents, however, doing whatever it takes to defeat them. He has a rabid appetite, like most other mamono, once seen eating an entire alligator whole. While he has reluctantly teamed up with Zatch, he isn't above harming Zatch to protect him from greater force, such as kicking Zatch in the groin so he could block a more powerful attack from Maestro with his foot (an action that embarrassed both Sherry and Kiyo). An Okinawan-American US Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War, George is one of the soldiers present when Saya goes insane in Vietnam, killing friends and enemies alike. One of the few survivors, he is asked by the first David to watch over Saya's sleeping body after she falls into another hibernation cycle. He lost his wife and biological children in an accident years before, but is inspired to live by the sound of Saya's heart beating in her cocoon. When she wakes up from her sleep and he sees she is no longer a threat, he adopts her as his daughter. By this time, he also has two adopted sons, Kai and Riku, and he runs a restaurant-bar called Oboro, in Okinawa. While protecting Saya, he is attacked by a chiropteran. While recovering from his wounds, he is kidnapped from the hospital and taken to a US military base where he is infused with Delta 67. After escaping, he is again wounded by a chiropteran while protecting Saya. The Delta 67 and the wounds from the chiropteran begin to change him into a chiropteran, so he asks Saya to pour her blood into his wounds and kill him. Saya is very reluctant, because he is the only father she has ever known. While they talk, he holds her hands, causing her blood to slowly run down his arms to drip into his wounds and kill him. Takeshi is known as "Brock" in the English Pokémon series. He is the former gym leader of Nibi (Pewter) City who gives up his position to travel with Satoshi (Ash) and Kasumi (Misty) on their journey to catch Pokémon. He aspires to become a top class breeder. He has a weakness for pretty girls and ends up either getting dragged away by Kasumi, Max or stabbed by his Croagunk. At the end of Diamond and Pearl, he's decided to part ways from Dawn and Ash to become a Pokemon Doctor.

Nakazato Takeshi (中里 毅) is the leader of the Myogi NightKids. He made his first appearance at the race in Akina where Keisuke Takahashi of the RedSuns is to race against Takumi. Surprised that Takumi could defeat Keisuke, Takeshi decides that he is going to be the one to challenge and defeat the "Akina downhill specialist", and that the RedSuns are next on his list. He is an intelligent and skilled driver, notably recognizing Takumi's the gutter hook technique while observing the Eight-Six's first battle with Keisuke's FD. However, his downfall is his anger and emotions getting in the way of his mind, resulting in poor throttle control. He also races all-out and usually fails to consider tire wear, so in the end, he loses the race, sometimes crashing his car. He is very good at acceleration and is known for his grip driving philosophy. His previous car was a Nissan Silvia (S13), with which he used drifting techniques. He changed to the R32 after a devastating loss to a white (or rather silver) R32 on his home course of Myogi. Following the defeat by the Skyline, his philosophy changed, favoring grip driving techniques over "weak" and "showy" drifting techniques. Ash Ketchum, known as Satoshi in Japan, is a fictional character and protagonist of the anime Pokémon. There are also incarnations of him in the Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, the Pocket Monsters Zensho manga, and the Ash & Pikachu manga. He is loosely based on the male protagonist of the Pokémon Red and Blue. The family name "Ketchum" is a pun of the anime's former tagline and slogan "Gotta catch 'em all!". At the beginning of the series, Ash was 10 years old, and later, in the episode "The Battle Of The Badge", Ash said that it was a whole year since he and Pikachu had visited Viridian City, making him 11. Furthermore, in the short called "Pikachu & Pichu" which was attached to Pokémon 3: The Movie, he said the day when the events depicted in the short took place was the day he met Pikachu, meaning his age at that time would be at least 12. However, two seasons later, the official Japanese Pokémon website reported that Ash was the same age as May, who was 10 years old at the time. This and the fact that the two are at the same height suggests that none of the characters have aged since the show began, placing the Pokemon anime in a floating timeline. Ash is a caring and valiant trainer but he can be confident to the point of arrogance and is known for being stubborn at times. He also has quite the reckless streak, which has led him to troublesome situations and even near death. But when in a Pokémon battle, he is highly competitive, and he shows tremendous presence of mind, taking advantage of the battlefield as well the nature of his and the enemy Pokémon's moves to claim victory after victory, though he has been known to lose from time to time. Ash has matured greatly over the course of the series, and has considerably improved his abilities as a trainer, but his earnestness and determination remain the same. During the first season of the series, Ash trained to catch more Pokémon than his childhood rival, Gary Oak, although Gary has caught more. He soon begins to focus more on each of his Pokémon's abilities. He also impresses many trainers by winning battles in which his Pokémon has a type disadvantage. At the Johto League Silver Conference Ash finally won a battle against Gary. Throughout the anime, Ash has met a number of rivals, including Richie, whom he faced in the Indigo League, and Casey, a diehard Electabuzz fanatic. During Pokémon tournaments, Ash has made rivals out of Harrison, Jackson, Morrison, and Tyson (the last of which went on to become the champion of the Hoenn Pokémon league). Near the beginning of Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl, Ash meets an arrogant young trainer named Paul, who quickly becomes his new rival. Ash's primary nemesis is a group of comical antagonists named Team Rocket. Ever since the second episode, "Pokémon Emergency!", two Team Rocket operatives named Jessie and James, along with a talking Meowth, have always tried to steal his first Pokémon Pikachu but have always failed. There are some occasions when they work together like the Pokémon: The Movie 2000. Ash's mother is Delia Ketchum (Hanako in Japan). She is a caring and thoughtful woman, though occasionally oblivious as her son, and in the English version of the anime often pesters him to change his boxer shorts every day, a gag throughout the early episodes of the first few series. The identity of his father has remained unknown. One reference to him exists in the anime. During a phone conversation between Ash and his mother in the second episode, she states to her amazement that he got from Pallet Town to Viridian City in one day. "It took your father four days to get there when he started Pokémon training", she says, "He'll be so proud!". A line from the play, Pokémon Live!, suggests that Delia, at one time, had a relationship with the leader of Team Rocket, Giovanni when she was a teenager, but in the anime, no evidence of Giovanni being Ash's father has been shown currently. In the episode "Showdown at Dark City," Ash went by the name of Tom Ato (tomato) after spotting some ketchup that Pikachu was eating. He had to disguise his name, so that his real name would not get a bad reputation, since he was dealing with the rivaling Yas and Kas gyms.
