Monokuma is the main antagonist of the series. A strange, remote-controlled teddy bear who proclaims himself to be the principal of Hope's Peak Academy and initiates a life of mutual killing amongst the students. He has various copies of himself throughout the Academy and will punish, ie. kill, anyone that attempts to attack him or otherwise break the academy's rules. Much like his name, he has a monochrome appearance, with one half looking like a cute white bear and the other half looking like a sadistic black bear. Just who the mastermind controlling him is, along with his motives for bringing the students together, serve as some of the game's main mysteries. Monokuma is known as the symbol of Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Despair and the true main antagonist of the series. Age: 27 (start of game) Date of Birth: February 1, 1984 (Aquarius) Height: 176 cm Weight: 63 kg Blood type: A A cheerful and jovial detective, Adachi often serves as the story's comic relief. He jokingly refers to himself as the 'slave' of Dojima, complaining of the workload that his partner piles on him. Adachi also often accidentally blurts out the police investigation results to the Investigation Team, much to his own chagrin. He can be seen hanging around Junes Department Store, usually planning to buy cabbages to cook for dinner. A young police officer in Inaba's police department, and Dojima's partner. In the Normal/True ending path it is revealed that Adachi is behind the two initial murders. He became interested in Mayumi Yamano and Saki Konishi and pushed them into TVs when they spurned his feelings. Believing Mayumi Yamano to be his soulmate, he confronted about her affair with Namatame. When she rejected his advances, he planned to hold her against the TV to scare her, but to Adachi's surprise, ended up falling in completely. He made similar advances on Saki Konishi, but was rejected again, and out of anger, threw her into the TV. Afterward, he tricks Namatame into kidnapping people under the idea that he was keeping them from danger. He explains that his reason for doing so is nothing more than to entertain himself and disgust for the human world, in fact, he reveals that the only reason he became a police officer was so that he could legally carry a gun. He gained his power from Izanami like the Protagonist, though he seems to be unaware of Izanami's influence. He was defeated by the party and arrested for his crimes. If the player continues towards the true ending the protagonist receives a letter from a recently convicted Adachi, stating his suspicions of a true Conductor behind all of the events of the midnight channel, providing the investigation team with new insight to their reasoning. It is heavily implied that he is suffering so much because of the expections and pressure from society he has to deal with.
Birthday: August 1 Hanyuu is the mysterious "transfer student" in Matsuribayashi-hen. She has a pair of dark colored horns on her head, one of which is chipped slightly (however, no one seems to notice or mention them, with the exception of Takano, who calls her a "monster"). In fact, she has appeared to Rika all her life, but only in Matsuribayashi-hen and Miotsukushi-hen did she gain the power to interact with others, posing as a distant relative of Rika's and given the name "Hanyuu Furude." Like many of the characters, she can be frightening when angered, and with her spirit-like nature, her appearance can change with her mood until she takes a physical form. She is very meek and often makes the noise "Au au, au au…" when she is nervous or uncomfortable, or sometimes while trying to make a point. She also tends to end her sentences with nano desu (ã�ªã�®ã�§ã�™?, lit. "it is so"). She dislikes alcohol and kimchi, which Rika imbibes in large amounts as punishment when she finds Hanyuu annoying (as both Hanyuu's and Rika's senses are linked together). She mentions that she is a "being above humans" after being sacrificed to atone for the sin of humans, while both Rika and Takano describe her as a kind of deity. Rika refers to her as "Oyashiro" when talking with others (evident from Shion's chat with Rika in Meakashi-hen) but does not personally think of her as Oyashiro; instead, she sees her as a close friend. In Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei, Hanyuu tells Rika that she was sacrificed to atone for the sins of the people of the village, and Hanyuu asked ÅŒka Furude (Hanyuu's own daughter and Rika's ancestor) to kill her and then make the village a better place. She is the one responsible for the eternally repeating June 1983, which she created in order to save Rika from being murdered.
Age: Late 20s to early 30s Birthday: December 3 Kyosuke is the head doctor of the village clinic. Despite his young age and the fact that he has a severe maid fetish, he is highly respected in the community. He cheerfully makes house calls and seems to truly care about everyone's health. He has (half-jokingly) admitted that he wishes to marry Satoko when she is older, but is not above chasing after Rika when she is wearing one of the uniforms from the restaurant Angel Mort. In addition, he is the manager of the village's baseball little league team, the Hinamizawa Fighters. In the past, he has performed lobotomies without consent, which led to him being banished from the medical academic society in Tokyo. He is recruited by Takano to direct research the Hinamizawa Syndrome, which he feels will redeem himself. It is later revealed that he works under Miyo in research, where he is trying to find a cure for Hinamizawa Syndrome, while not knowing of his employer's true desires.
