Lucy appeared in the episode Queen of the Serpentine!. In the anime, it was mentioned that she does not teach her Pokémon defensive moves. Before battling Ash, she had rescued his Pikachu from Team Rocket with her Seviper, defeating Jessie's Seviper in the process. In the battle, Ash started off by using his Donphan against Lucy's Seviper. For a while, Lucy seemed to be having the upper hand despite the type disadvantage. However, Ash managed to turn the tables on the serpent Pokémon by using Donphan's Rollout to counter Seviper's Flamethrower, knocking it out of the battle. Lucy then sent out her Milotic which easily took out Donphan with just a single powerful Hydro Pump attack. Left with no other choice, Ash decide to use Pikachu. However, again, despite the type disadvantage, Lucy almost managed to defeat the electric-mouse Pokémon by treating it to a barrage of Hydro Pumps and Twisters. She even used paralysis to her advantage by using Facade. Ash finally managed to defeat it and win the match when he innovated a move by making Pikachu jump inside one of the twisters and using a spinning Volt Tackle. In addition to her preference of serpentine Pokémon, Lucy also seems to have a soft spot for squinty eyes, as she was shown to keep several pet Pokémon at home, all of which had squinty eyes. She develops a crush on Brock due to his squinty eyes. Lucy in the anime is very different from her game self personality wise. In the anime, though quiet, Lucy seems to be a rather a nice person, allowing Ash to battle her even though the Pike was closed that particular day. She also congratulated him on his victory. In the games, however, she is narcissistic and seems to be very irritated when the player defeats her. Her change of attitude in the anime can be attributed to her crush on Brock and a desire to impress him.
Anime: Scott first appeared in The Scheme Team. After observing Ash's battle against Agatha, Scott recommended that Ash go to the Battle Frontier. He next appeared in Numero Uno Articuno to observe Ash's battle against Noland. After that, Scott appeared at every battle facility to observe Ash's battle against the resident Frontier Brain. He hasn't been seen since Ash defeated Brandon. In Gathering the Gang of Four!, it was revealed that Scott is the owner of the Battle Frontier. According to him, he created the Battle Facilities to expand the art of Pokémon battle. In Pace - The Final Frontier!, Scott asked Ash to be a Frontier Brain after he defeated Pyramid King Brandon, the last Frontier Brain. Ash declined. Due to the fact that he wears sunglasses often, his eyes are almost never seen. Scott is also known for reckless driving. He drives rather fast, regardless of what kind of terrain he is on. Manga: In correspondence with Pokémon Emerald version, Scott appears as the founder of the Battle Frontier in the Emerald chapter of Pokémon Adventures. He also makes a cameo in the Ruby and Sapphire chapter during the fight between Groudon and Kyogre.
Birch was first mentioned in a flashback of Harrison on Johto Photo Finish. His first appearance was in Get The Show On The Road when he gave May her Torchic. He later appeared in Dewford Town in both A Three Team Scheme! and Seeing is Believing!. Birch also appeared in A Six Pack Attack, when he was meeting Professor Oak. Later, Birch was seen in The Evolutionary War! at a vacation on A-B-C Islands. Over there, he and the twerps cleared the mystery of the Clamperl evolution. Birch's most recent appearance was a short cameo in The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon; it is unknown if he will appear again since the main characters have left the Hoenn region. His preferred mode of transport is a jeep that he drives recklessly. Due to the relationship between characters in the games, it is widely speculated that Birch is the father of Brendan's anime counterpart. Anime: Bruno appeared in To Master the Onixpected!, but it's possible that Bruno appeared already in Pokémon - I Choose You! as the shadowy Trainer using Nidorino and Onix. His English voice actress is Maddie Blaustein and his Japanese voice actor is Toshiyuki Morikawa. While Ash was preparing for the Pokémon League in Kanto, he found out that Bruno was training in the mountains near Pallet Town. Brock was enthusiastic about meeting Bruno, so they took Misty and headed towards the mountains. In the local mountains, it was known that Onix grew much larger than usual. After Bruno saved them from one of the giant Onix, Ash and Brock begged for Bruno to take them on as students. Bruno agreed, as long as Ash and Brock would do anything he said. Bruno had them chop wood, carry water, and carve chopsticks - amongst other chores. Misty began to suspect that Bruno was a phony. Brock decided to prove how amazing Bruno was by surprising him with a sneak attack. He assumed that Bruno's reflexes would be so amazing, he'd stop Brock with ease. Brock nearly ended up knocking Bruno unconscious. Bruno admitted that he didn't know any secret techniques on how to train Pokémon and just wanted to have someone to do chores for him. Later, the kids were again chased by a giant Onix. Bruno calmed the giant Pokémon, and it decided to join Bruno's team. Bruno then said that the only true secret behind Pokémon training is that Trainers and their Pokémon should care for each other. Blaine was a former member of Team Rocket, joining because of his interest in science, conducting experiments on some of Red's future Pokémon, namely Gyarados and Eevee. But after hearing of Red's clashes with Team Rocket, like protecting Mew from Team Rocket, Blaine left, attempting to make up for his evil deeds. When Red reached Cinnabar Island, Blaine was under attack by members of Team Rocket and their newly captured Moltres, on loan from Sabrina. Blaine had his Rapidash carry Red to his Pokémon Lab, who in return let Blaine use his Gyarados to hold off Moltres, where Red was able to revive an Aerodactyl from a fossil. Aerodactyl helped rescue Blaine and defeat Moltres. Later, Blaine asked Red to help him in Cerulean Cave. While he was working under Team Rocket, Blaine combined some of Mew's DNA with his own to create a hybrid Pokémon named Mewtwo. Some of Blaine's hand was infected with Mewtwo's DNA, and thus he was able to track the synthetic Pokémon. Because of this, Team Rocket attempted to abduct Blaine to review Mewtwo's whereabouts. Using the Master Ball, Red was able to capture Mewtwo for Blaine. The psychic bond between Mewtwo and Blaine limited them both. If they were apart for too long, both would begin to become ill. Blaine worked for several years trying to find a way to sever the bond without hurting either of them. During the Cerise Island incident, Sabrina's Spoons of Destiny paired Blaine and Yellow together in the fight against the Elite Four. Together, they confronted Lance. However, the bond between Mewtwo and Blaine proved to be their undoing, and they were defeated, leaving Yellow to face Lance alone. Later, during the Mask of Ice's plot in Johto, Entei chose Blaine to be its partner. The healing power of Entei's flames was finally able to cut the link between Mewtwo and Blaine, and the two were free to live their lives apart from each other. Although he's serious for most situations, he also had his comical moments like getting his moustache burnt when he was training and had to use fake ones. Koga was the Gym Leader of Fuchsia City's Gym, known officially as the Fuchsia Gym. He is a student of ninjutsu who specializes in Poison-type Pokémon. He handed out the Soul Badge to trainers who defeated him.Koga is a ninja who trains in an old mansion, the Fuchsia City Gym, in the woods outside Fuchsia City. The Gym is filled with traps such as fake mirrors, invisible walls, pits, and many Voltorb. Aya, Koga's younger sister, is one of his students.Later, in the Generation II games, he is promoted to the Elite Four, leaving his daughter in charge of the Gym.
Morty (Matsuba in the Japanese version of Pokemon) is the Gym Leader of Ecruteak City's Gym, known officially as the Ecruteak Gym. He hands out the Fog Badge to Trainers who defeat him. He is a young man who uses Ghost-type Pokemon. In the anime Morty appears in three episodes of the anime: A Ghost of a Chance, From Ghost to Ghost, and For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll!. He teaches classes on training Ghost-types. He knows that most Ghosts lack physical power, and relies on disabling his opponent by confusing or frightening them. Ash, Misty and Brock first meet Morty when they mistakenly went to the Burned Tower thinking it was the Gym. His Ghost Pokemon had created an illusion of fire to scare the trainers away, but Morty settled them and introduced himself as Gym Leader. He told them about the legend of Ho-Oh and the two towers of Ecruteak, but didn't believe that Ash had ever seen Ho-Oh. When Team Rocket kidnapped Pikachu and Togepi, he used his powerful Gengar to stop them. Whitney's and Morty's appearance in Bagged Then Tagged!. The next day, Ash and Morty had their Gym battle. Ash was able to defeat him by relying on his Noctowl's Foresight to weaken Morty's Ghost Pokemon and make them vulnerable to Normal attacks. After Morty was defeated, he said he believed that Ash may very well have seen Ho-Oh, given Ash's great spirit. When Ash and company returned to Ecruteak on their way to Mahogany Town, it is revealed that he and Eusine have a close relationship because they both study rare legendary Pokemon. He makes a small cameo along with Whitney in Bagged Then Tagged! when it was revealed that Lyra's next Gym challenge was supposed to be one of them. In Pokemon Adventures In Pokemon Adventures, he is a natural version of the Itemfinder, using his powers to locate lost objects and Pokemon. He has clairvoyant psychic abilities that allow him to see things at a distance. He was unfortunately away from Ecruteak when Team Rocket attacked it with the earthquake, but later assisted in its reconstruction. His dream is to one day be able to see Ho-Oh. The rainbow Pokemon's power is so great, it blocks Morty's abilities. Another Pokemon that he found unable to locate was Suicune, which he tried to search for on Eusine's behalf. Morty first appeared after finding a Girafarig for a young woman and after hearing that Suicune had awoken from a radio, quickly went searching for it. He encountered a mist with both Gastly and Misdreavus, and was soon able to sense and find it. Morty had run Suicune into the town, where it seemingly acted paralyzed by Gastly's Thunderbolt, though it was able to trick Morty. As he had thrown the Great Ball, it turned out that Suicune used Mirror Coat to negate the attack and paralyze Misdreavus instead. Morty then contacted Eusine about having come into contact with Suicune and went off on the chase as well.
