Heidemarie W. Schnaufer is based on German pilot Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer. Her archetype's nickname was The Night Ghost of St. Trond, which is the reference for her story in the manga Kimi to Tsunagaru Sora. She is Karlsland's top night witch (Nachthexe). By the end of 1944, she was nearing a shot-down count of 100, all of which were scored in air combat at night. Together with a magic Radar Antenna, a tell-tale feature of a night witch, she has a special night vision ability which allows her to see clearly through the darkness by starlight. As a child, she had trouble controlling this night vision ability, and thus went through much of her life indoors in dimly lit conditions. At the age of 10, she was admitted into a witch training program, and as she learned to control her powers, her talent as a night witch blossomed. Soon, her night vision ability would no longer spontaneously activate, but the visual neurons which had already been damaged could not be healed even with magic, so she usually wears glasses with a strong prescription. As if in response to her lonely childhood, she has a strong desire to make friends with others her age, which is surprising, especially in a night witch. A currently serving night-fighter air infantryman in 1944. Once she reaches 100 victories, she will be promoted to Squadron Leader, becoming Karlsland's youngest combat air wing commander (Geschwaderkommodore). She appears in the Strike Witches 1.5 manga and episode 10 of Strike Witches 2. She is one of the more famous witches known throughout the world, though she insists that she doesn't do autographs. She was formerly in a Karlsland squad alongside Barkhorn and Erica, who weren't fond of her showing off. She has a competitive attitude and tries to motivate Erica, who she views as her equal, to compete for the tiebreaker, which due to her slack nature rarely happens. "Mad" Prince Virid is the younger of Viridian's twin princes. After birth he was locked up in a cell by his mother. His mother "has no need for two princes" and does not care for Virid at all (this Virid: his brother and him share the same name). His mother sent hitmen after Virid, but he killed them all, which makes people very afraid of him. When the twin princes in Viridian turn thirteen, they must have a fight to the death to decide who is the next king. His older twin brother occasionally visited him in his cell and later came with a message from their mother: "If you find the Amaranthine and bring it to me, you can both live." So he sets out to find the Amaranthine and meets Futaba. He joins Futaba and Kiara in their quest to find Kiara's master, thus he is traveling with the Amaranthine throughout the story. His personality takes a massive turn, from mass murderer to clingy happy person. He seems to have a rather unnatural attraction to Futaba.
An ace dogfighter from the Fuso Empire, she rose to fame after the initial Neuroi probing attack in the Fuso sea in 1937, where she shot down 7 enemy fighters. She was expecting to get deployed to the frontlines in Karlsland, but was ordered to Suomus instead. Based on Satoru Anabuki.
Sakomizu Haruka is a Witch attached with the Fuso Imperial Navy. She is also known as "Sakomizu of the Friendly Fire" (味方撃��迫水, mikata-uchi no sakomizu). A short-build girl wearing a rubber coat over a sailor suit and a cap with an anchor mark, she has adorable features and big, round eyes beneath her neatly aligned forelocks. Officially, her familiar is a tanuki. However, during the Character Design stages by Shimada Humikane, she was drawn with a calico cat familiar. A man who lives in/is part of the fictional world. He refers to Akatsuki first as comrade, then as partner. Vid is extremely knowledgeable about the fictional world, but he refuses to divulge much information to Akatatsuki. Vid's weapon of choice seems to be his fan. He desires the location, and perhaps the identify of, the fictional world's "God".
