Tsukushi Makino is the main female character, and is one of the very few students at the prestigious Eitoku University to come from an "unwealthy" family. Her family is so poor that they can barely afford to pay Makino's tuition, but her parents push her on to continue school because they have a dream that she can "snag a rich man" and take them out of poverty. At the beginning of the manga, Makino was a poor, pig-tailed girl who had almost no friends at school and kept to herself. When one of her only friends falls down a staircase and bumps in the leader of the F4, Makino stands up for her friend (Domyoji was about to hurt her for bumping into him) and suffers the consequences. The next day, a red tag is hanging in her locker, which predicts future torment from the F4 and followers. But, unlike most of the F4's targets, Makino stands up for herself, showing how strong a "weed" can be. In this process, she changes to let her stubborn, hardworking ways show through, and in the end she turns all of the F4 into her friends. At first, Makino hates all of the F4 except Hanazawa Rui, (which she has romantic feelings towards). But, as Rui goes off to chase after Shizuka, Makino gets to know them, and even slowly falls in love with the hotheaded leader, Domyoji.
The main protagonist of the series. Despite his looks and easygoing personality, he is a capable and strong worker who works for Benika as a dispute mediator. When he was young, he lost his family in a terrorist attack. As a result, he became withdrawn from the world until he met Benika. He wished to be as strong as her so he could live on. Benika decided to leave him at the H�zuki household. It was there that he trained his body extensively and learned H�zuki-style martial arts. His kind demeanor attracts considerable attention from the opposite gender, though he is completely oblivious. In emergencies, he is able to produce a large 'horn' out of his right elbow which classes him as "Type 1 Class 2 Fighting Demon". This special weapon was designed for the purpose of assassination. This lets him use his full strength in combat, but shortens his lifespan. When he is forced to fight, his personality changes to a more aggressive one. Between the anime and the manga, there are differences in the way Shinkur� is depicted. In the anime, Shinkur� is not as confident and appears to have less control over the Hozuki horn.

She is the first to meet the school's New Teacher, introducing herself as the Belgium-made assault rifle FNC. She also goes by the nickname 'Funko' from her older sister FAL who also had the name entered in FNC's teacher's student list (assumed to have used her position as Student Council President and good relationship with the teachers to do so) much to FNC's chargin. Because of the skeleton stock on her weapon-self she wears a T-back which gets her picked on due to an incident with the New Teacher calling her "T-back girl" and her literal return-fire putting him in the hospital twice. During the "extra lesson" battle against her older sister FAL, M14, and G3 she is one of the last to survive (along with SIG) until the New Teacher interrupts and drags her and L85A1 away for being in the upperclassman area.

A 7th-grader attending Seiho Academy. An only child, his family owns the shop Iori Models, and he's been a Gunpla fan from a young age. Both his building technique and his Gundam knowledge put many adults to shame. However, he's a poor Gunpla Battler with a long record of washing out in the first round. It's confirmed that Sei is the creator of a customized GAT-X105 Strike Gundam model, the GAT-X105SEI Build Strike Gundam: A model focusing on mobility, it specializes in quick, hit-and-run attacks. She is Ash's mother. Delia is very caring of her son, always reminding him to do his best. She is very talented, having won a beauty pageant and cooked a dish so popular that elite chefs at the Indigo Plateau have asked for its recipe. It is not known who is the father of Ash, but it isn't clear that Ash's parents have separated, although she has contacted him at least once since Ash left. She has a Mr. Mime housekeeper who helps her with chores and is also rather adept in battle. In the Japanese version, the name of Satoshi's mother was, for a long time, unrevealed (with her referring to herself as Satoshi no haha or referred as Mama-san, although the role was credited as Hanako).
