Nagisa is an incredible beautiful kindergarten teacher. Despite her popularity with men, she has always felt uncomfortable around men and has difficulty trusting them. This situation stems from the fact that up until college she had only attended girls' schools and in college her crush ended badly. One day she is taken to a marriage interview bar by her friend Isobe. Isobe signs Nagisa up to meet Fuguno for fun. She finds she shares a lack of experience with honest, unconfident, and goofy Fuguno. Thus begins the stray path she travels with him. In OVA's history, Nagisa meets Fuguno by seeing him under a rainy day. She gives her handkerchief to him. Fuguno remembers Nagisa and meets her the other day on the bullet train. Decided to return Nagisa's handkerchief and to know her name, he follows her. Nagisa scares a little but after Fuguno explains everything to her they talk a little. When they are about to return home, Nagisa notices that she lost her apartment keys and after a long search, Fuguno finds them. At the end of the day, Nagisa tells her name to Fuguno with a cute smile.

Nagisa Sawa is a transvestite which is in love with his younger cousin Yukihito. He is an author of the book and director of the film named "Embracing Love" in which Kyosuke Iwaki had the lead role. The movie was quite popular in Japan and abroad, so Nagisa Sawa decided a year later to announce "Embracing Love: The TV Series".

A Mazone spy masquerading as the Secretary to the Prime Minister of earth, Shizuka is a consummate manipulator who stages an assassination attempt on her boss, then frames Commander Kiruta for the crime, only to then break him out of jail and trick him into asking Harlock to give her sanctuary for her apparent treason. Shizuka's ultimate objective is to ascertain the mystery of the Arcadia's unidentified forty-second crewman, and then disable the ship from within. When her identity is discovered by Harlock, Lafresia abandons her, only for Harlock to grant her freedom in spite of her actions. He rescues her after her own forces attempt to terminate her rather than let her return in defeat, but torn between guilt of failing the nation of her allegiance and feelings of admiration for her honorable enemy, Shizuka ultimately orchestrates her own death at Harlock's hands. Harlock never tells Kiruta (who was quite smitten with Shizuka) that she was a spy, and claims she died a hero during combat with the Mazone fleet. Shizuka makes an encore appearance of sorts in Endless Odyssey, re-conceived as a holographic assistant to Dr. Daiba. She has dark hair (a la the manga version of her original character) but the same dress and pendant. She is the homeroom teacher of Hazumu's class who has an excessively cute style shown through her loud expressions of love towards Hitoshi Sora or her passion for protecting her students in her class. Also, she is extremely clumsy which gives rise to her being the butt of many jokes.

Nagisa is the main character. Nagisa suddenly transfers to an all-girls school called St. Miator Girl's Academy because her parents went overseas for work, leaving Nagisa behind. Nagisa ended up transferring to Miator after her aunt, who is a past graduate of St. Miator, the oldest school of Astraea Hill, recommended she attend. She seems to have a peppy personality, which can usually cause her to get in trouble if it gets the best of her. At first, whenever Nagisa gazed into the eyes of Shizuma Hanazono, she was unable to move at all, as if she was completely paralyzed. Later on, she seems to have developed a strong attraction towards Shizuma; the Etoile may very well be Nagisa's first love. Other things about her include that Nagisa is easily frightened, making her tremble at even the slightest mention of something scary. This continues the theme that she tends to be more childish than most of the rest of the students her age. Also, she often likes to admire others for their artistic abilities.
