A chain that lives in a dimension created from Alice's memories. He resembles a human form of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Cheshire was actually Alice's pet cat from 100 years ago. The bell around his neck is the 'truth' from 100 years ago, later taken by Break. The Cheshire cat is a unique chain in that he doesn't need a contractor in order to leave the Abyss (since his residence isn't in the Abyss in the first place). Originally believed to be a fervent servant of the Intention of the Abyss, it later turns out that he is trying to protect Alice's memories that she abandoned, in order to prevent her from suffering pain when she recalls them Break mentions that Cheshire's eye was his. It is revealed in Break's memory of meeting the Will of the Abyss that Vincent had removed Cheshire's eyes 100 years ago. [Cheshire can also be connected to "Through the Looking Glass" as Alice's cat 'Kitty'. Kitty is also black and has a ribbon tied around his neck.]
Sunao is a male junior high school student with a very serious attitude and in effect shows little emotion, if at all. He is the one to originally find and name Potemayo, and it is perhaps due to this that Potemayo takes a liking towards Sunao. He does his best to look after Potemayo and make sure she is safe, which means he has to take her to school with him everyday. Sunao's mother passed away when he was younger, and since his father is almost never home, Sunao has become very self-sufficient at a young age. (Source: Wikipedia)
Ky is another one of Sunao's classmates, and is Mikan's close friend. She has a tomboyish personality, and is athletic.
Tomari is a young girl in fifth grade of elementary school. She first met Potemayo while chasing Guchuko after she stole some chestnuts from her. She later ran into Mikan and her brother Yasumi, whom she takes a liking to after he gives her a hat that Mikan had originally given her brother. Tomari is a tomboyish girl who rarely wears female clothing and has very short hair for a girl, which makes her look like a young boy; it came as quite a shock to Mikan and Yasumi to find out Tomari was a girl. A housewife from Lower Sotoba who works in drive-in Chigusa. She's xenophobic to the point of unhinged mentality, and forbids her children to play near the motorway as she believes the outsiders will take them away. Her conditions visibly worsens after her father-in-law, Iwao, becomes a Shiki and kills her husband, daughter, mother-in-law and culminates in insanity when her son, the last member of the family, is also murdered. Later, Motoko joins the Shiki extermination and betrays her friend Kanami's secret (that Kanami's mother Tae is now a Shiki and currently hiding in their house) to the villagers, leading to Tae's death and Kanami's abandonment of the village. She's obsessed with finding Iwao to avenge her children; her efforts are in vain as it's strongly implied that Iwao was already killed by Natsuno. At the end of the series, she becomes completely mad, and sets fire to the village and herself.
Kanami is the owner of a roadside restaurant, Chigusa. Kanami's mother dies due to anemia and becomes a Shiki. After finding her way back to Kanami's house, the mother is too helpless to kill and survive on her own, so Kanami keeps her alive by feeding her glasses of her own blood, not wanting her mother to kill innocent people. Kanami's friend and co-worker Maeda Motoko finds out about Kanami's secret and promises not to tell anyone. However, Motoko becomes jealous of Kanami getting her mother back (while Motoko's entire family died at the hands of her father-in-law, who became a shiki) and reveals this to the villagers, who broke into Kanami's house and killed her mother. After this incident, Kanami is seen leaving the village when the Shiki extermination continues.
