He is an elderly man with short, pale purple hair that spikes up at the back, a bristling moustache and a long beard. He wears a hat of sorts which has the symbol of his village on it, similar to a forehead protector. He also squints and wears what appears to be a purple kimono.

Hatake Sakumo is the father of Hatake Kakashi. He is also known as Konoha's White Fang, Sakumo and in his time, his powers were said to surpass those of the Sannin.

During his fight with Sasuke Uchiha, he is shown to have the eye of Shisui Uchiha under his bandages on his face, while those on his arm cover many other Sharingan eyes for the purpose of using Izanagi, the forbidden technique of rewriting ones fate.
