She has since confessed her feelings to him, but not much progress in their relationship has been made; they still remain friends. Nodoka is the second person to establish a probationary contract with Negi and gain a pactio card (it occured during the field trip to Kyoto). Her artifact is a book that can show one's thoughts in picture diary format.
Seat Number: 10 Completed: 3/1/2001 Activated: 1/4/2002 Hair: Light green Eyes: Green Spring Powered model (initially external power source) Likes:Having People Wind Her up, Serveing Tea Dislikes: Nothing, really.... Belongs to the: Tea Ceremony Club, Go Club Chachamaru Karakuri is student number ten in the class. She is a two-year-old robot created by Satomi Hakase to serve Evangeline and protect her during time where the spell binding her weakens her. She is initially without any real emotions, but after spending time around Negi, she begins to have feelings for him, and show emotions, such as embarrassment when the crush is brought up, her internal gears increasing in speed during moments where a human's heart would beat faster, and even leaking laser fluid from her eyes when she's upset. These feelings go against her original programming, which excites Hakase. She spends most of her free time helping people and rescuing stray animals. She strongly fears the idea that she is nothing more than a soulless doll and that she does not have a soul; however, during the Governor's ball in the Magic world she forms a pactio with Negi (in Nagi form) which appears to have a cat theme, proving that she does indeed have a soul; as Pactio contracts can only be formed between those with true souls. Chachamaru's body is powered by an internal spring combined with magic, and it has to be wound with a key by someone with magical energy to power her. The actual winding process is apparently pleasurable and/or arousing, although too much magic can intensify the feeling to uncomfortable levels. She is skilled in hand to hand combat, and she is equipped with rocket fists, laser emitters, magic-powered thrusters that can allow her to fly for fifteen minutes, and a tool to undo binding circles. Her body has been upgraded several times, and she is later given a completely new body that looks completely human, unlike her original body's easily detectable parts; she even has a chibi body designed to disguise herself. The upgrade also allows her to transform her arms into swords and guns.
Setsuna is a Shinmeiryu swordswoman from Kyoto who was taken in by Eishun Konoe, Konoka's father and the leader of the Kyoto Mage Association. She is childhood friends with Konoka and her protector. Setsuna spends the beginning of the series being relatively cold to Konoka, wishing to protect her from the shadows due to not forgiving herself for being unable to save Konoka when she almost drowned when they were kids. She does eventually open up to Konoka after the Kyoto arc and begins calling her "Oujo-sama" and "Kono-chan". Setsuna's pactio, Sica Shishikushiro is a wakizashi which she can summon and multiply at will to strike targets like missiles. Due to her training she's also skilled in anti-demon arts and is the one who taught Negi how to create shikigami from paper. Setsuna is a hanyou like Koutaro, in particular a crow. She was expelled from her people because white wings are considered a bad omen, and it was implied by Evangeline that she is an albino using hair dye and contact lenses to appear human. A running gag within the series is that Setsuna and Konoka appear to have romantic feelings for one another, yet Setsuna will deny it whenever she and Konoka are stumbled upon in romantic situations or asked about her preference.
Student Number: 24 Birthday: July 14, 1988 Clubs: Robot Construction Research Society, Advance Jet Research Society The smartest girl in class 3-A aside from Chao Lingshen, Hakase or "Professor" as she's sometimes called, is almost always involved in research at Mahora University's science labs whenever she's not in class. Hakase is Chachamaru's creator and therefore the closest thing Chachamaru has to a mother. Hakase appears to have known about magic even before Negi came to Mahora, based on the fact that Chachamaru was made to run partially off magic, and all the conversations she has with Evangeline. She is the only person who knows for sure that Chachamaru is in love with Negi, and designs a more realistic skin-like covering for Chachamaru to help her out with her goal (Negi). During the school festival and before the martial arts tournament, she helps run the Chao Bao Zi diner cart with Satsuki. She is one of the few girls in the class who does not go with Negi on his trip to England. Hakase is the right-hand "girl" of Chao Lingshen, and she helps Chao with her plan to reveal magic to the world by constructing an army of robots powered by the world tree's magic, as well as creating many anti- wizard measures to incapacitate the magic users of Mahora. Her motivations for helping Chao with her plan are never revealed. During Negi's final fight with Chao, Hakase becomes genuinely impressed with Negi's magical skill, which allows him to fight on par with her and Chao's most advanced technology.

Seat Number: 12 Born on: 3/16/1989 Blood Type: A Hair: Blonde Eyes: Green Likes: Training, strong men , Nikuman (a type of Chinese bun containing meat) Hates: Chao and the professor's new inventions (this appears to be a reference to a sonic game) Clubs: Chinese Martial Arts Research Society An energetic, cheerful Chinese girl with very good motor nerves, as well as skilled in Chinese martial arts. Her specialties are Xingyi Quan and Bagua Zhang, though she knows a little Baji Quan and Xinyi Liuhe Zhang as well. Since she won the Mahora Academy Martial Arts Tournament, every morning there's a big crowd challenging her (which she beats them up Akane Tendo style). After the Kyoto trip in volume 6, Negi begins training with her daily, where they share a master-student relationship. However, much like Asuna and Kaede, Ku Fei's skills as a fighter are far superior to her performance in Negi's class. She is known as Baka Yellow of the Baka Rangers, a title given to the five worst students in Negi's class. (Her bad results mainly stem from her inability to learn Japanese properly, often speaking in broken Japanese.) According to Ken Akamatsu, if Setsuna, Kaede, Mana and Kuu Fei (i.e. the "members" of the 3A Martial Arts Elite Four) were to fight without holding back, Kuu Fei would be the weakest among the four, though this is only because she uses no magic, but pure martial arts. In chapter 261, Ku Fei makes a Pactio with Negi, but only on the grounds that he beat her in an arm-wrestling match. At first he has difficulty doing so, but ends up winning in the end. She is the 10th student in Negi's class to form a Pactio with him. Her artifact is an extending pole, much like Son Goku's pole from "Journey to the West," and can also alter it's size and the speed of its extension.
