Morty (Matsuba in the Japanese version of Pokemon) is the Gym Leader of Ecruteak City's Gym, known officially as the Ecruteak Gym. He hands out the Fog Badge to Trainers who defeat him. He is a young man who uses Ghost-type Pokemon. In the anime Morty appears in three episodes of the anime: A Ghost of a Chance, From Ghost to Ghost, and For Ho-Oh the Bells Toll!. He teaches classes on training Ghost-types. He knows that most Ghosts lack physical power, and relies on disabling his opponent by confusing or frightening them. Ash, Misty and Brock first meet Morty when they mistakenly went to the Burned Tower thinking it was the Gym. His Ghost Pokemon had created an illusion of fire to scare the trainers away, but Morty settled them and introduced himself as Gym Leader. He told them about the legend of Ho-Oh and the two towers of Ecruteak, but didn't believe that Ash had ever seen Ho-Oh. When Team Rocket kidnapped Pikachu and Togepi, he used his powerful Gengar to stop them. Whitney's and Morty's appearance in Bagged Then Tagged!. The next day, Ash and Morty had their Gym battle. Ash was able to defeat him by relying on his Noctowl's Foresight to weaken Morty's Ghost Pokemon and make them vulnerable to Normal attacks. After Morty was defeated, he said he believed that Ash may very well have seen Ho-Oh, given Ash's great spirit. When Ash and company returned to Ecruteak on their way to Mahogany Town, it is revealed that he and Eusine have a close relationship because they both study rare legendary Pokemon. He makes a small cameo along with Whitney in Bagged Then Tagged! when it was revealed that Lyra's next Gym challenge was supposed to be one of them. In Pokemon Adventures In Pokemon Adventures, he is a natural version of the Itemfinder, using his powers to locate lost objects and Pokemon. He has clairvoyant psychic abilities that allow him to see things at a distance. He was unfortunately away from Ecruteak when Team Rocket attacked it with the earthquake, but later assisted in its reconstruction. His dream is to one day be able to see Ho-Oh. The rainbow Pokemon's power is so great, it blocks Morty's abilities. Another Pokemon that he found unable to locate was Suicune, which he tried to search for on Eusine's behalf. Morty first appeared after finding a Girafarig for a young woman and after hearing that Suicune had awoken from a radio, quickly went searching for it. He encountered a mist with both Gastly and Misdreavus, and was soon able to sense and find it. Morty had run Suicune into the town, where it seemingly acted paralyzed by Gastly's Thunderbolt, though it was able to trick Morty. As he had thrown the Great Ball, it turned out that Suicune used Mirror Coat to negate the attack and paralyze Misdreavus instead. Morty then contacted Eusine about having come into contact with Suicune and went off on the chase as well.
Anime: Chuck made his only anime appearance in Machoke, Machoke Man!. Ash and his friends met a man roughhousing with a Machoke. After following him, Ash discovered that the man was Chuck, Gym Leader of the Cianwood Gym. Even though he is the Fighting master, he gets tired easily as he is a little fat. His wife continually makes fun of him because of this. He is positive-minded and emotional and has a tendency to break out into tears if happy. His battle technique is to battle with his Pokémon to improve their concentration. Later Chuck and Ash had their battle for a Storm Badge. Ash used Pikachu who got defeated by Chuck's Poliwrath. Ash then used Bayleef who defeated Poliwrath and Machoke. It was later revealed that Brawly, the Dewford Town Gym Leader, used to be one of the many students of Chuck. Manga: Chuck taught Blue martial arts and how to train Pokémon when the boy was very young. He initially was training for a battle with Wayne in his first appearance. He then noticed something amiss when he found his sandbags and Wayne's jacket slashed, but then he met Suicune, and with help from Wayne. He figured out that it was the cause of the jacket and sandbags and attempted to catch it with Wayne, but to no avail as previous Gym Leaders such as Clair had tried to do. (Source: bulbapedia)
Hagen was born as a genetically altered test tube baby, in the process he received superior genes. Because of that he yearns for superior women to impart the genes to his next generation. Hagen is the evil mastermind who, even though contracted by the military to find the Lagu, wants it for his own ends. He believes that Lagu is something the Earth produced to destroy the humanity that polluted it. He enjoys commanding his army, especially the bridge, and is passive but calculating. Anime: Anabel appeared in the episodes Talking a Good Game! and Second Time's the Charm!. Anabel has the empathic ability to sense the emotions of living beings and communicating with them, ever since she was little, possessing powers similar to Yellow of Pokémon Adventures, although other characters do not seem to regard these as psychic abilities but rather a honed sense of empathy. Nevertheless, she is still portrayed as a sort of Psychic-type specialist. She also shares a strong bond with her Pokémon, calling them my friend upon sending them out. She failed to teach Ash and May her empathetic abilities, as their Pokémon receive nothing from them. Ash and his friends were surprised to learn that Anabel is a girl; when the group arrived at her house, she declined to change her wet clothes in front of them. Ash asked if it was because of May's presence, but Anabel explained that it was because she's female. Ash lost his first match to Anabel after her powerful Alakazam managed to defeat two of his Pokémon consecutively, shadowing both Ash's Corphish and Tauros. In a rematch, Ash beat her by using the same strategy as in the previous battle. During their farewell, Anabel was shown to have a crush on Ash. Manga: Anabel is the most powerful Frontier Brain, and the leader of the group. Her trademark Pokémon is Raikou. Anabel directs the resistance to Guile Hideout's attack, but falls victim to one of his traps, allowing him control over the Battle Tower. Emerald tries to scale the Tower and stop the villain, but despite the emergency the Tower's automated trainer system is active, forcing Emerald to battle his way to the top. Emerald succeeds, but meets a horrifying sight at the top - Anabel, brainwashed and under Guile Hideout's complete control. She brutally crushes him in a battle and then attempts to kill him when he is rescued by Sapphire and Ruby. Guile Hideout then makes an appearance and threatens to kill Anabel unless he is given the information he demands on Jirachi.
Liza (along with her twin brother Tate) are the Mossdeep City gym leaders in Hoenn. She gives her five minute younger brother a hard time when they train their pokemon. Her prized pokemon is a Lunatone.
Professor Cozmo leaves either with Team Aqua or Team Magma (Team Magma in Pokémon Emerald) for the Meteor Falls, thinking that they are going to help him excavate meteors. However, the offending Team steals the meteorite, intending to use it to power their machine at Mt. Chimney. After defeating the grunts and the team's leader, the player can take the meteorite from the machine and return it to the Professor in exchange for TM27 (Return). In the anime In Fight for the Meteorite, Professor Cozmo meets Ash Ketchum on Mt. Chimney. The situation from there is similar to in the games. He is voiced by 西æ�‘朋紘 Tomohiro Nishimura in Japanese. In the Pokémon Adventures manga In the Chuang Yi translation of the fourth chapter, he is referred to as Professor Starstone. This error is rectified when he appears in a flashback during the fifth chapter. Professor Cozmo believed Team Aqua to be noble heroes, so he assisted them with the meteor and their device on Mt. Chimney. He's apparently good friends with Roxanne, and was once her teacher.
Nobori is one of the leaders of the Battle Subway in Pokémon Black and White, along with Kudari. Nobori made his debut appearance at the end of BW045 along with Kudari where they detected Team Rocket's tampering with the track switches. In BW046 the pair went in search of what or who was causing these disturbances and they caught a glimpse of two figures before they disappeared into the shadows. In BW047 and BW048, Nobori and his brother met Ash, Cilan, and Iris as the subway they were riding had stopped. Nobori and his brother reappeared in BW051, where they had a tag battle against Ash and Cilan, who were using Tepig and Pansage respectively. Nobori is referred to as "big brother" by Kudari indicating that he's the older of the twins.
