En and Atsushi's instructor; supposedly killed in an incident by tripping over Wombat and falling down a flight of stairs, Wombat quickly explains that he isn't technically dead. However, he has to remain in close proximity in order to keep the teacher from suffering the effects of decomposition. And uses him as a cover to appear inconspicuous. Tawarayama briefly recovers in "Love, Training Camp and Toothbrushes" but is accidentally injured again, rendering him comatose once more. As none of them witnessed his recovery, they do not know if he is an animate corpse or he will simply wake up soon.
The main protagonist of the story. She has a secret that she is a professional mangaka who draws shoujo manga. After an accident at school, Tomoya finds out her secret, and remembering some advice from her editor, she asked him for a date so that she could learn more and improve her work. However, throughout the series, she is easily embarrassed by having any contact with boys (especially Tomoya) and often turns either extremely red or melts into goo. Later on, she falls in love with Tomoya although she questions their relationship. She becomes jealous when Tomoya shoots a kissing scene with an actress (who is also a fan of Rena's works). She is also very polite in the real world as seen during her meeting with Kuroyukihime and she holds high regards for her master and the rules that he set for her and Ruka. Itosu became the child of Ruka after she became a burst linker. After becoming a burst linker, she and Ruka are inspired to to increase the number of burst linkers in their community.
