While the same age as all of his classmates, Makoto Kurita is perhaps the youngest in heart and spirit of class 5-3. At the start of the series, this bowl-haired boy finds himself the most emotional of the students, running and screaming away from any scary phenomenon. But with Nube's guidance and the assistance of his friends, he slowly learns to face his fears and grow up in certain ways. One of Makoto's greatest strengths is his kind and friendly nature, allowing him to try and remain cheerful in the face of both human and youkai threats; however, he remains the most childlike of Nube's students, both in stature (though he is small, he is constantly hoping for the day he will "grow up") and his love of kiddy past-times like keeping pets or watching sentai series. (His most favorite being Chou Kiken Sentai Kakukaku Ranger which is a slight parody in name of the series Ninja Sentai Kaku Ranger, but translates as Extremely Dangerous Sentai Nuclear Ranger.) While he also receives horrible grades like Hiroshi and Katsuya, he actually puts in effort to try to improve himself in any way possible. The Director General of Space Patrol's Ogikubo branch. He has a strong sense of justice, to the point that his many catchphrases include the word "Justice." Although he talks big, he acts little, often relying on other characters, especially his secretary. He also jumps to conclusions, as seen when he repeatedly arrests and frees Luluco in the first episode.
He is almost always seen sitting at his desk and gesturing with his extended index and middle fingers in the shape of a gun. His skeletal body constantly burns with a purple flame, which appears to be a manifestation of his sense of justice.
An heir to a noble family line, Darcia became cursed along with the rest of his family when his grandfather attempted to artificially open the wolves' paradise with a machine. This curse, referred to as 'paradise sickness' throughout the anime, also affected Darcia's lover, Harmona, who is ths rendered into a state of perpetual sleep. Darcia kidnaps Cheza the flower maiden throughout the series to once again attempt to open the wolves' paradise and save himself and Harmona from their misery. The destruction of his village and the killing of his family by who he thinks was a pack of wolves have led to his deep and abiding hatred for wolves, which is rivaled only by his perpetual desire for a stiff drink. He lives a life on the go with only Blue to keep him company and aid him in his pursuit of wolves to kill. After Blue discovers her relations to the wolves, Quent soon finds out, and as he still struggles with his hatred for wolves, he decides that she isn't his dog anymore.
