The once great ruler of the Mediterranean, as well as the grandfather of Italy and Romano. His eyes are brown (but were depicted as being green in earlier artwork) and his hair is dark brown with two curly ahoge sticking out on both sides of his head, similar to his grandsons. He has tanned skin, but in the anime adaptation, his skin was changed to being fair. It was said in his official profile that he has a lot of “stupid� grandchildren, meaning that his grandchildren failed miserably in following in his footsteps. At this time, Italy and Romano have been the only two confirmed to be his kin, but some suspect that Spain, France, and others may be related, too. Ancient Rome raised Italy and called him his “favorite� grandson. The two had a very close relationship, and when Ancient Rome eventually died, Italy was devastated and refused to become the new Roman Empire due to what ended up happening to his grandfather. Throughout the series, Italy refers to Ancient Rome as “Grandpa Rome� (Rome-ojiichan), and thinks very highly of him. Although he didn’t turn out as successful his grandfather, Italy did manage to inherit his natural talents for trading and art, plus his charm and charisma. Because he was busy raising Italy, Grandpa Rome remained more distant from Romano. This caused Romano to feel inferior and overshadowed by his younger brother. He also became very jealous of him for not only taking their grandfather’s affection away from him, but also because Italy inherited his talents and because Romano claims that Italy looks more like Grandpa Rome in appearance than he does. Despite this, it was shown that Grandpa Rome loved and cared for them both equally, and as shown in the manga, he took the time to visit Romano from heaven as he did with Italy. His close friend and guard was Germania, the Holy Roman Empire’s grandfather. Eventually, although they were inseparable at one time, the two became enemies. The entire truth behind everything that went down during this period in history remains unclear, but it is known that Germania was the one to deliver the final blow to Grandpa Rome. He’s depicted as a strong, handsome, and lively man who had so much love to spread around, that he fell for both Egypt’s and Greece’s mothers at the same time. In the original manga illustrations, he was drawn as an elderly man with a small mustache, but his appearance was later changed to a much younger and nobler looking man. His hobbies included painting, sculpture-making, music, and any other form of the arts. He loved delicious food, beautiful women, and sex. It was mentioned that whenever he saw a strong man, he overflowed with great excitement.
Germania’s grandson who was in love with Italy (then Chibitalia), for he thought that Italy was a girl. For a while, he lived with Austria, Hungary, and Italy. It was then that he made the decision to try and get Italy to form a new Roman Empire with him. Italy, however, refused, claiming that he didn’t want Holy Rome to end up beaten and fatally wounded like his grandfather. After entering into the Thirty Years War, he disappeared and believed to have died. Beforehand, he said his goodbyes to Italy, who gave him his panties (which was changed to a deck brush in the anime adaptation) to remember him by. The two never met again, but Hidekaz Himaruya promised a happy ending to their story (which has not yet been revealed). Holy Rome was pretty strong, but had an extremely weak constitution. His love for Italy was so great, that his empire crumbled and he didn’t even care. He was shown as being short tempered, but kind when he wanted to be. As far as skills went, he lacked any sense of artistic ability, but was very smart (apparently, Austria had him studying all the time). According to Hidekaz Himaruya, his height (as well as Chibitalia’s height) was revealed as being 7 apples tall (about 90cm or 3’0�). In the English dubbed version of the anime, he was given an Italian accent, which, as pointed out by fans, was historically inaccurate since he was of Germanic descent. In reality, either would suffice considering that the Holy Roman Empire was comprised of several countries and territories, all of different ethnic backgrounds, therefore, no single official language was ever recognized.

Episode 3 is when he is fully introduced. An experienced and talented street fighter, Wolf is a long time friend and rival of Staz. Wolf was abandoned by his parents for not being a pure werewolf. When Wolf gets over-hyped, he grows claws and he grows a snout. Wolf is a mildly short-tempered young man, but with great ambition. He is very powerful and strong-willed, and thinks very highly of his strength. However, he knows he is not stronger than Staz, but still continues to challenge him to battles as he becomes stronger. The supposed reason to his attempt to conquer all the territory in the Lower Demon World is so that he will prove his strength, and be finally accepted by the same family who abandoned him, including his father, the King of the Demon World Acropolis. Additionally, Wolf demonstrates a very caring nature, despite his "rough" outer personality, as displayed by his actions towards Fuyumi and his friends in danger. He seems to have a small crush on Fuyumi, despite him saying she's not his type.

Wolf is a friend of another dog and a friend of Menchi. He only shows up in the first Menchi's great adventure episode. And then one more time for as a flashback in the second Menchi's great adventure episode.
