Souma is Kendappa's best friend and the last survivor of the Souma clan. Her clan was killed by Taishakuten and her parents were beheaded right before her eyes. Her parents had hid Souma in some bushes so she did not get killed. After that day, she had always dreamed of getting revenge and beating the crap out of Taishakuten, and she set out traveling by herself. She passed out in a forest, out of exhaustion, and that was when Kendappa-ou comes a-riding into the forest on her horse, and happens to see Souma laying there unconscious. The people of the Souma clan were gardeners, so Souma is skilled in making healing herbs and medicines. She also has weapons, the Sougeppa, or Twin Moon Crescents. They're kind of like miniature crescent-shaped boomerangs that she can throw out, and they can cut off people's heads and stuff. Souma also makes a good spy. She's fast and jumpy, likes to hide up in trees, and seems to disappear or appear all of a sudden in front of the group to bring them news of any of Taishakuten's armies who are on their trails. It's revealed that she and Kendappa-ou are in love with each other. Souma is killed by Kendappa-ou. Kendappa-ou believed that Souma could not win against Taishakuten so she rather kill Souma herself. Souma wanted to give her blood to Kendappa-ou (there was a legend where the Souma clan could grant immortality to one person in their life if they give their blood to that person) so she would not die but Taishakuten stopped her from doing so. She's short and at times has a blunt way of speaking to people, but is generally a friendly person. She likes to read but (ironically) doesn't like to study, and is one of the Baka Rangers (a name for the 5 worst students in Negi's class). When she finds out that Negi is a mage she gets excited about learning magic herself. At first she shows no romantic interest in Negi, but as time goes by she finds herself developing a crush on him. However she doesn't want to hurt Nodoka, so she tries to keep it bottled up as much as she can. She's supportive of Nodoka and wishes her the best of luck when it comes to her and Negi's relationship. Yue became the 5th person in Negi's class to make a Pactio with him, following Asuna, Nodoka, Setsuna, and Konoka.

Student Number: 1 The helpless and meek ghost of a former student, Sayo Aisaka has low self-esteem and is not skilled at being a ghost, tripping even though she doesn't have feet and being completely unable to scare people, more often frightening herself than others. She is invisible to almost everyone, and her presence goes mostly unnoticed though Takahata had her included in the class registry, with a note to Negi not to change her seating. Sayo has been friendless and lonely for around 60 years since her death, which made her very desperate for a friend, and later attempts to talk to the rest of the class during the preparations for the School Festival. Manga version: Sayo attempts to show herself to the class during the Mahora school festival in order to make a friend, but the class interprets her clumsy communications as the work of a poltergeist, and tries to exorcise her. After Negi and Asakura calms everyone down, they're able to accept Sayo as part of the class. Afterwords, Sayo can always be seen by Asakura's side, as a sort of side-kick, although only Asakura and those with magic are able to see her at first. She eventually receives a palm-sized magic straw doll from Evangeline that allows her to move around with a somewhat physical body as well as allowing her to leave the school grounds.

However, as much as Chisame avoids any and all attention in the real world, in the privacy of her own room, she takes on the persona of Chiu, a famous Net Idol, devoted to cosplay. Although she is, fitting with her character, rather disturbed by the idea of other students being openly attracted to and/or in love with 10-year-old Negi, she eventually becomes very close with Negi as he convinces her to interact with the real world. After finding out about the existence of magic, she reluctantly becomes part of Negi's group. Chisame is an extremely skilled with computers, and she is able to hack into large databases with minimal effort. After forming a pactio with Negi, she gains the artifact, Sceptrum Virtuale, a heart-topped staff that allows her to actually enter cyberspace as a physical realm, upon which she can internally hack into systems. She can allow others to enter with her while their bodies stay in the real world. She is assisted by virtual "spirits", Kincha, Hanpe, Konnya, Chikuwafu, Negi, Daiko, and Shirataki, who can communicate with her while she is nearby an electronic device. They can watch out for any viral attacks, and manipulate data, which allows her to increase the ranking of her site. However, her Pactio ability has the drawback of being near-useless when not connected to the internet, and her spirits disappear when her laptop's batteries are exhausted.
