Masahiro is the protagonist in the series. He is an Onmy�ji in training and the grandson of the legendary Abe no Seimei. When he was young, Masahiro’s spiritual sight was so strong that Seimei temporarily sealed it away until he was old enough to properly use it. After meeting Mokkun, Masahiro regained his spirit sight and embraced his destiny as an Onmy�ji in service to the emperor. He is friendly and kind to both y�kai and people whom he seeks to protect from evil demons that had taken up residence surrounding the imperial capital. Although he is sometimes cocky and clumsy, there are moments when he utilizes powers beyond those of a mere apprentice, which is why Seimei claims he is the only one who can succeed him. Masahiro greatly resents being known only as Seimei no Mago (晴明�孫, Seimei's grandson) and trains hard to surpass his grandfather. He has two older brothers whom both are married and has families of their own. Narachika is the eldest in the family. His second older brother, Masachika is ten years older than he is. According to Ten’itsu, children in the Abe residence were often taken care by the twelve Shinsh�. It was seen through flashbacks in the anime that Masahiro was taken care by Guren. In addition to his magic, Masahiro later receives a sword called the G�ma no Tsurugi, a sword which was forged by Seimei which previously belonged to Suzaku. He was also given Kagutsuchi (軻��智) by Takao no Kami, flames that has the power to kill gods, in order to destroy the corrupted Guren. In addition, he erased Guren’s memories that are about him, meaning that Guren will never remember the time when he met Masahiro in the form of a mononoke or the time when they were fighting demons together. Wakana is Seimei’s wife and Yoshimasa’s mother. She died when he was only two years old due to an illness. Although she died a long time ago, her spirit hasn’t cross to the other side. Masahiro also met her for the first time in the final episode and not knowing that she’s his grandmother. He met her in the spirit world when he was ready to cross over to the other side, and she invites Masahiro to sit beside her. There she tells him that her lover hasn’t come and that’s the reason why she couldn’t cross to the other side just yet. Utahime is a forest elf known as the "Voice of the Green Wind" due to her ability to summon life force and make plants grow through her song. She lives in a valley where she gathers plantlife from all over the globe, along with an arboreal ancient. She seems feeble and delicate, but is very powerful in battle. She has a bit of a crush on Mondo. In the Mon Colle Kids manga, she is shown to be able to take on a human form, in which she visits the other universe and attends to same school as Mondo and Rokuna. Here she befriends the boy Daisuke and gives him a pair of magical gloves. In the anime, she is referred to with Utahime-san. In the Saban-produced dub she is called Kahimi, and in the Mon Colle Kids manga she uses the name Saki (Hope Blossom) in her human form.
