Miyazawa Hiroyuki and Miyako Miyazawa are Yukino, Tsukino and Kano's parents. They met as children and married right after high school, a continuous source of consternation for Miyako's father. When Hiroyuki asked to marry Miyako, her father beat him black-and-blue. Hiroyuki still bickers with his father-in-law, grumbling that the old fool could not let go of his daughter. His father-in-law was a policeman, and Hiroyuki encountered the old man under unfavorable conditions; he was caught while he and his friends were forcibly riding Miyako's new bike. Hiroyuki was an orphan who was raised by his grandfather, and values family very highly, a feeling that Miyako shares with him. Miyako understands his pain as she had lost her mother as a child. He loves his three daughters very much, and is frequently wearing a t-shirt that says "Daughter Love". His daughters, on the other hand, frequently tease him or treat him a little rudely, e.g., "Shut up, Dad!" after which he sulks comically. One of these infamous T-shirts ends up being worn by Soichiro to go back home in, when he is caught in a storm to walk Yukino home. A published writer at a very young age, Aya is obsessive compulsive when it comes to her writing. She writes a play for the newly formed school drama club, and chases down Maho and Yukino to play lead parts. Although both Maho and Yukino run away at first, Yukino changes her mind after reading the play. Yukino's sister Kano is a big fan of Aya's books
Sweet and gentle Rika is a gifted seamstress and craftswoman. A self-effacing person, Aya considers her life as average, and the least distinguished among her friends, but she is happy to be behind the scenes. She works on costumes for school plays and events. She was best friends with Aya since childhood, and she and Aya have a strange dynamic where Aya will do something selfish towards Rika, but Rika's sheer goodness will shame Aya ... and the cycle continues.
Birthday: August 1 Zodiac sign: Leo Smart, attractive, athletic and talented, Yukino Miyazawa appears to be the model student. Both her male and female peers express their admiration for her, often asking her for help and commenting about her model features and characteristics. However, her "perfect" exterior hides the fact that everything she does is done solely to receive praise from others. She has been this way since she was a little girl - a self-professed "queen of vanity", Yukino once practiced playing her recorder until she vomited blood. With all this praise, however, she never realized that she never had a real friend aside from her family and was considered by her peers as a kind of semi-approachable "guest". An athletic, beautiful and intelligent student, Maho was the star of her middle school. But she falls out of the limelight when she arrives at Hokuei High School because of Yukino. Maho becomes jealous of Yukino, which mirrors Yukino's jealousy of Soichiro. Her jealousy becomes hatred and she turns the entire class against Yukino. However, it eventually backfires on her and the class turns on Maho. Yukino takes the high road and makes the first efforts to turn Maho into a friend. Maho soon becomes part of Yukino's circle of friends, and although she maintains her aloof attitude (staying a little out of the ring and being refered to as Maho-san, while every other girl is simply called by her first name), she also eventually learns to cherish the friendships.
The middle daughter of the Miyazawa family, Tsukino seems to be goofier and more laid back than her sisters. Tsukino tends to tease Kano, the youngest daughter.
At first glance, Tsubasa seems like a little girl because of her looks and height. She's cute, she whines, she pouts : she's your average fifteen-year old girl adored by all. Tsubasa, like every other person, has her likes and dislikes and her big dislike are men. Time and time again, Tsubasa is hurt by the men in her life. Take for example, her longtime friend, Soichirou, was her crush and she had planned on confessing to him once they entered highschool. However, she does attend Hokuei High School until later on in the manga/anime because of a skateboard accident and when she returns, Soichirou is already claimed by Yukino. Tsubasa then finds out later that her father who has taken care of her ever since her mother passed away is planning on getting remaried. For our little princess, Tsubasa had hoped that she'd be the only girl in both Soichirou and her father's life and that with her by their side, they would all be content. When she finds out that they are allowing other women into their lives, Tsubasa is devastated and feels even more lonely. When she finally meets her step-brother, Kazuma, she soon finds herself falling for him even though she was against her father's remarriage in the first place. Tsubasa is definitely one of the most dynamic characters of Kare Kano for she learns to open up again to the world. She matures and learns to grow up and to accept many things that may hurt her. Even though she doesn't get along with some people, such as Yukino, she learns to like her and eventually is attached to her. Tsubasa may be overlooked as a character who's just simply "there", but she is definitely more than that. Despite her cute childish behavior (which includes overdose of sweets), Tsubasa is a girl full of many mixed emotions and her way of thinking is very complexed. In a way, she learns to become independent and knows that the only way to find happiness is to get up and go for it rather than sit at home and sulk about it. Tsubasa is more than just a pretty face and defines a lot of what "girl power" is. There is definitely something amazing about this princess of ours. Tsubasa is known commonly as the baby of the group in Kare Kano. Most of the time, you'll see her eating candy whenever the group is eating lunch. In the anime, you can see that she loves Totoro and in the manga, you will see that she loves big cats. When Tsubasa's in a bad mood, she'll become violent and scratch people. Despite her violent nature at times, Tsubasa is like a real princess deep down. It also makes sense since the "hime" in her name means "princess" in japanese. She's a good homemaker and takes good care of her father and the house they live in.
