Kazue Nanpo is a first-year student at Hirataki High School in Nagano Prefecture and a supporting character of the "Saki" anime. She is the granddaughter of professional mahjong player Nanpo. Kazue appears in the anime during Nagano's prefectural individual tournament but is mentioned only by name in the manga. As the kanji of her family name implies, Kazue is a strong player during the second half of the han-chan, called the south (nan) wind. This is opposite of Kiyosumi High School's Yuuki Kataoka, who is strong during the first half of the han-chan.
