Tanya Degurechaff is a cute, adorable and pretty-good looking little girl. But deep inside, she is highly power-hungry, amoral, ruthless, sadistic and hot-tempered. Especially when she is in battle against her enemies, she shows utter ruthlessness and bloodlust just to accomplish her missions. Tanya also strongly disapproves of failure and disobedience from her subordinates. She is loyal to her own job and always wants to finish it as soon as possible. Tanya will never let anyone discriminate her appearance because of how fast she goes through the ranks in the military.
Originally a salaryman who died in an accident in 2013, he was reborn as a girl living in an alternate universe version of Europe during World War I. At just nine years of age, Tanya enters the Empire's Mages Division and is promoted to Second Lieutenant. Her talents, efficiency, and ruthlessness makes her an asset for the Empire and a threat on the battlefield.
Not much is known about the protagonist in his original life, including his name. He was a Japanese salaryman who gained a reputation for having a ruthlessly utilitarian and career-minded personality. He died in a subway after being pushed in front of a train by a man he fired, after which he meets God. As an atheist, he denies God's existence and rather dubs him Being X. The two get into an argument about faith and modern humans which ends up with God punishing the protagonist by having him reborn in a world that was in dire straits, had less technological development and overall was less grounded in science. The opposite of these three points were used by the protagonist's argument to explain why modern men no longer need God.
The protagonist is reborn in an alternate reality of 1913, as an orphan girl named Tanya. Spending the first years of her life in a nunnery, her outlook for a good life initially looked slim. Worse, she's living in the Empire (equivalent of Imperial Germany), one of the nations that is fighting in World War I (or their alternate equivalent of it). Luckily to her, Tanya has exceptional magic potential, a rare talent sought after in the Empire. After she's discovered to have magical abilities, people quickly expected her to be conscripted into the Empire's military once she reaches an appropriate age.
Tanya however thinks ahead of this, and she volunteers to join the military at the age of 8. Her reasoning was that the Army was the only institution of the Empire where women are treated equal to men. She intends to rise in ranks and then live a comfortable life in the back lines away from danger, both for her sake and in order to spite "Being X." Yet even though Tanya is successful at impressing the leadership it backfires as her talents make her a necessary asset on the front lines. She's heartless, selfish, amoral and terrifyingly ruthless. Yet at the time of the bloodiest war of this world, she might be described as the "ideal soldier." On the outset Tanya is viewed by her squad mates as either a patriotic hero or a bloodthirsty monster.

* First appearance: Battle 192 * Age: 38-39 * Type: Unknown (Likely both Sei and Dou) * Type: Satsujin Ken * Yami Symbol: Shadow * Martial Arts: Fuurinji Style Martial Arts Fuurinji Saiga is the current One Shadow of Yami's One Shadow Nine Fists, the master of Kajima Satomi, and the father of Fuurinji Miu and the lost hero of Ryozanpaku. In his youth, Saiga appeared to have been a very kind and merciful man, sparing any opponent he fought to end the bloodshed. He fell in love with Shizuha and wished to have her hand in marriage. In the present from what can be shown so far, Saiga appears to be very ruthless, his constant fighting having possibly been corrupted from the fighting and constantly wanting to fight strong opponents. With Yami, he most likely rules them in fear and treats them with no proper respect. He has an odd habit of always hiding his face from the other members of Yami when talking with them. It's strongly implied he is the one that killed his own wife, Shizuha and left his own daughter in the cold to die so he could fight, suggesting he no longer cares about his own family. However, in his first full appearance, he showed to still care deeply for his daughter's safety as he willingly came to save her from Jenazad's brainwashing and from getting killed. He has also shown compassion, such as genuinely thanking Kenichi for protecting Miu and states he's a man worthy of being trusted. Also, despite being an apparent follower of the Satsujin Ken, Saiga has shown to be merciful to his enemies, as defeated his opponents and intentionally didn't kill them, even giving Menang medicine to treat his injury. Saiga was raised by his father, Fuurinji Hayato, who trained him rigorously through the principles of the Katsujin Ken, which he would uphold until later in his adult life. Akisame said that he was his best friend. At some point in time, he defeated James Shiba, who supposedly let his guard down, and damaged his right eye and left leg. Saiga met Shizuha while observing birds in the mountains. However, he had trouble in obtaining her hand in marriage, as the Kuremisago regarded her as a religious symbol, fearing to place her in the hands of someone too strong. The Kuremisago split over this, some siding with Saiga and against their tradition and others continuing to uphold it, fighting with each other around the globe. Saiga was able to hold his own in many of these matches without having to kill anyone. However, as the battle dragged on, he began to take up the Satsujin Ken belief. This was noticed by his father however he decided to turn a blind eye until after Shizuha's death, which is heavily implied to be Saiga's doing.

Head of the student council and full of disdain and doubt, she keeps watch over Koremitsu's actions. She is Aoi's senior cousin (from Aoi's father's side) and always seem to be overly protective to Aoi. Her model character in "Tale of Genji" is Asagao (Asagao no Himegimi). She is also the main heroine for volume 6 of the novel. She made a promise with Hikaru for "not crying" when was young, so she hasn't cried once since then. She is even openly involved in the powerhouse struggle of the Mikado family, and wish to become the leader of the family in order to protect Hikaru. She treats Aoi with a protective manner while showing her superiority over Aoi both consciously and unconsciously. Aoi was very angry when she realized the fact, and never spoke to Asai again until the problem is finally resolved. She is voiced by Saori Hayami in the drama CD adaptation.
