Yoshida Ayumi is a student in Teitan Elementary when Shinichi was enlisted into her class after he had been shrunk by the drug APTX 4869. Shortly afterwards, Ayumi and her classmate Genta had the idea of investigating an apparently haunted mansion. They persuaded Conan to come along, and Genta also personally drafted Mitsuhiko when the latter expressed his criticism about supernatural hauntings. As it turned out, the haunting served as a cover-up for an old homicide case. Following its resolution, the foursome decided to stay together and form the nucleus of what would become the Detective Boys. For a time, Ayumi was the sole female member of the Detective Boys until Haibara joined the group. During a case involving a cache of stolen Italian gold coins just prior to the official formation of the Detective Boys, Conan saved the group from getting killed by the Mafioso who were also after the gold, earning Ayumi's gratitude which quickly developed into a serious crush. Ayumi is a naive and innocent little girl who shows courage from time to time and acts as the team's cheerful spirit. She has an open crush on Conan, which makes him uncomfortable, though Ayumi thinks that he has feelings for Haibara because he tries to protect her and she often sees them talking amongst themselves in private. Ayumi later becomes better friends with Haibara, and she allows Ayumi to use the more informal term Ai-"chan" to address her. When on a case, Ayumi often makes really simple observations that allows its progress and resolution. For instance, she unlocked one of the codes from the Momotaro container the Detective Boys found in Kurashiki by deducing that it was most likely referring to one of the statues at the Oohara Art Museum: they had to walk 25 steps from the statue towards the direction it was facing.

Karura was once princess of Na-Tunku before she was taken down and replaced with a puppet of the Shakukoporu. She is found after killing many enemy soldiers *with her bare hands* in order to escape. Even though she's royalty, she decides to live a "normal" life as "Karura", serving Hakuoro. She and her brother are the last two Giriyaginas on Earth. Her superhuman strength lets her wield a ridiculously heavy sword, thus making her a very effective shock troop, acting more like Hakuoro's tank on the battlefield and ripping through enemy troops. She's often seen carrying a jug of sake around, sometimes even on the battlefield. She appears to have known Urutori from long ago, though their shared history is never revealed. During the slave's revolt in Na-Tunku, Karura swears everlasting devotion and fealty to Hakuoro, the most sacred vow one of her kind can make. Her brother, Derihourai, becomes the new emperor of Karurauatsuurei (named after Karura), the new name she gives Na-Tunku after the slave's revolt succeeds.

Together with him Ino Yamanaka, and Asuma Sarutobi they make team 10. Choji has a love for food, his favorite being Korean barbecue, general snacks and sweets, and basically anything that is edible. His nigh-constant hunger is a constant annoyance for his teammates, as sating himself often comes before other necessities such as stealth and teamwork. Because of this, his teammates often use food against him, such as offering him food as a reward for accomplishing a task or simply using his favorite foods as a form of blackmail. Despite his open display for his love of food, Choji is very sensitive about his size and becomes highly agitated when somebody calls him "fat." Once called "fat," Choji's resolve to fight is elevated to new levels and he becomes much more hostile to his opponents than he would otherwise. Just as they use food against him, Choji's teammates use this personality trait against him as well. Should Choji be reluctant to fight, one of them need only comment on his size to spur him into combat form. As an Akimichi, Choji's style of combat focuses on increasing his size. At the series' start he uses Multi-Size Technique to serve this purpose, reshaping him into a large, round form.
