He is a self-proclaimed feminist, which he claims is the reason for his gentle treatment of women and children. Matako instead believes that he has a Lolita complex (and as such is a 'lolicon'). Takechi once commented that Kagura would be in her prime in a few years. He prevented Matako from killing Kagura, citing that her fighting ability would be incredible in a few years. He is heavily wounded by a crazed Okada, his fate after which is unknown. His name is based on the Meiji restoration era samurai, Takechi Hanpeita.
A blind hitokiri working for Takasugi. He seeks to destroy everything in the world, similar to Takasugi. His level of swordsmanship is such that he can slash an opponent without the latter seeing him unsheathing his sword. However, Nizou's sword was broken by Gintoki during their initial encounter. Nizou later returns and severely injures Katsura and Gintoki using a demonic sword, 'Benizakura' which transmogrifies his arm and fuses the blade with it. The Benizakura acts like a parasite, slowly taking over Okada's body, which causes him to eventually become nothing more than a crazed monster. Due to the sword, his body has undergone several modifications. He later reveals that his entire upper torso has similar cybernetic modifications. He is eventually defeated by Gintoki. Though his fate is unknown, he is assumed deceased due to the effects of the Benizakura. His name is roughly based on one of the hitokiri of the Bakumatsu era, Okada Iz�.
Teacher/mentor to the Old Jouishishi members in their youth. Trained Sakata Gintoki, Katsura Kotarou, and Takasugi Shinsuke in swordskills and the bushido. He died before the Gintama storyline started.
Kouta is a childhood friend of Midori's and also a fellow first year at Ogurabashi High School. He was always in love with Midori, yet he keeps looking at Sawamura a little funny.
Kouta is an enigmatic character. He and Shipon develop a romantic relationship but there's still a lot about him that remains unknown. He has an older sister who runs an astronomical observatory in Japan. He often gives advice which is as enigmatic as himself. He consistently achieves rank C in every class, without exception, regardless of how easy or hard the subject is. And when he was warned of the possibility of Ayaka attacking Shipon during training, he displays extraordinary piloting abilities beyond what his ship should have been capable of handling. Another example would be during a simulator-game where Rinna scored Rank A, Shima scored Rank B, he had scores Rank S. When Shima asks why Kouta does not do the best during class, especially since he is capable of it, he merely says: he wonders why also.
