She had a non-speaking appearance in the first episode of the anime adaptation and in a special unaired episode titled “The Diary of the Awesome Me, Part 2.” At one point in time, Belgium lived with her brother, the Netherlands, and Romano (then Chibiromano) in Spain’s house. Her relationship with her brother seemed to have gone bad at this time. When he declared independence from Spain, Belgium fought against him and stayed with Spain. The Netherlands tried making up with her afterwards by forming one country with her, but things did not work out and the two remained separate countries. It is also said that their great differences in their personalities was what played a big part in pushing them away from each other. Belgium is mature and friendly compared to the Netherlands, who is cool and tough. To this day, it is noticeable that their relationship is still on the rocks and somewhat awkward. Romano, as a child, had a big crush on Belgium, who was much older than him. He was shy and unable to express his feelings towards her or kiss her when she told him to, something that Belgium only told him to do because she felt bad for him. She is described as being kind, mature, good-natured, diligent, and friendly, but gets pushed around by her siblings a lot and is somewhat meddlesome, like the type of person who sticks their nose in other people’s business. It is also said that she’s crazy for gourmet food and delicious snacks. Apparently, she’s very frightening when mad. Although her official human name has not been decided, Hidekaz Himaruya revealed in a blog post that he has considered “Anri,” “Emma,” “Laura,” and “Manon” as possible names. Since this decision has not been made final, fans often render her name as “Alice” in reference to “Alice in Wonderland.”

His hair is pale blonde, and he possesses dull, soulless dark blue eyes (similar to Japan's) as well as a curly ahoge that floats independently beside his head (sometimes accompanied by a small dot). This was said by Hidekaz Himaruya to be because Norway is a "whimsical" type of character, thus the reason why the hair curl is floating and unattached to his head. He has a younger brother named Iceland whom he's quite close with. It was confirmed by a DNA test that the two are in fact blood brothers, but even so, Iceland refuses to call Norway "Onii-chan" (Big Brother). Norway's self-proclaimed best friend is Denmark, whom he has known since they were children. Denmark seems to be terribly dense, for he does not realize that Norway doesn't consider them to be close in the slightest. Often times, you can find Norway picking on Denmark, but he's too oblivious to notice. His personality is rather mysterious, and he doesn't talk much or show emotion. He's apparently very shy around strangers, and is somewhat of a recluse. According to Iceland's pet puffin, Mr. Puffin, he's surprisingly snarky. Like England, he is able to interact with and see supernatural creatures. It is because of this that you can sometimes see a little fairy or troll by his side. Also to note is that he speaks in a Tsugaru dialect, and is often seen sporting a barrette shaped like a Nordic Cross on the left side of his head. A traveler, he one day visits the Land of Adults, where he meets the main character of the series when she is a 11-year old girl, and stays at the inn that her parents own. He finds a broken motorrad, and with Kino's help repairs it, giving it the name Hermes. After hearing about the operation Kino is about to undergo, he talks about how she should have more than one road in life. Soon after, when Kino is about to be murdered by her parents with the support of the whole town for daring to think about such taboo thoughts, Kino (original) steps in front of the knife, defending her and dying in the process. After Kino escapes with the help of Hermes, she decides to rename herself after her savior.

When he made his official debut in Hetalia World Series, his hair was changed to being blonde and his eyes were changed to blue. Back when they were under the rule of Denmark, Sweden and Finland ran away and began living together. Finland was later overpowered by Russia and was under his control; he claimed to be “freer” when living in Russia’s house, but didn’t have as much fun as he did with Sweden. Sweden’s adopted son is Sealand, whom he bought from an online auction. He also has partial custody of Latvia and Estonia, which came to be after he and Finland ran away from Denmark. He doesn’t talk much and seems very mysterious and scary due to his intimidating appearance. It was said that he came to be that way because he was born in a cold place. However, he’s rather serious, honest, playful, and kind underneath all this. Surprisingly, his hobbies include debating, making furniture, art, glass crafts, making a huge amount of Surströmming (which was said to be able to be used as a lethal weapon), and putting most of his effort into the welfare of his citizens. It is also to note that he speaks in a Tohoku dialect. Finland calls him “Su-san” for short, and Iceland calls him “Svi.”

He thinks of himself as the “big brother” figure out of the Nordics, and is always sporting a goofy and cheerful grin no matter what the situation. At one point in history, he lived with and had control over Finland and Sweden, only to have them eventually rebel and leave due to his hard-to-get-along-with nature. They were said to be unable to tolerate his lifestyle and behavior, which was very different from their own. He considers Norway to be his best friend, even though Norway doesn’t think of them as being that close. They’ve known each other since childhood, and Denmark’s grown to feel strongly towards him. Usually, Norway can be found making fun of and bullying Denmark, but Denmark’s too dense to be able to realize this. His personality can be found as being somewhat obnoxious to others; he’s really stubborn and doesn’t listen to people very well. On top of that, he is demanding, bossy, and very controlling. Although it’s said that he’s hard to get along with, he’s actually pretty friendly and good-humored. He is also a hard worker despite it being said that he possesses a carefree attitude. Genzo Wakabayashi is an extroardinary goalkeeper who can catch almost anything thrown at him. Not many shots can come past Genzo. A charismatic guy, Genzo is also loyal to his friends and he is firm with his decisions. Genzo always keeps his feelings to himself and people close to him as seen in Shin Captain Tsubasa, when he's willingly criticize his teammates' performance in order to make them realize that football in Europe is different than what they play in Japan. His actions caused a lot of Japanese players to dislike him and Genzo only told Tsubasa his true intentions. From early childhood, he has aimed to be the best goalkeeper in the world. He tended to be selfish, and brag about his skills before he met and played a couple of games against Tsubasa.
