A friendly player that meets Kirito at the start of the game and quickly befriends and learns from him. He and Kirito later separate because he has friends who were also new to the game so he couldn't leave them. He survives for the past two years and managed to protect his friends the whole time, something Kirito regretted not doing. He is a katana user and the leader of the small guild Fuurinkazan who participates in the boss battles. As one of the few people close to Kirito, he always keeps him in check and wants Kirito to survive the game. He chose the Salamader race in Alfheim Online. In the side story Caliber, he fell in love at first sight with the girl on the cage named Freyja and agreed that he will help her find her tribe's treasure which is a hammer, though the decision still remains to be a team's decision. The team said yes on Caliber and it turned out that the girl they saved was Thor. It was revealed that Thor disguised as a beautiful girl to get close to Giant King Þrym and retrieve his hammer. Thor defeated Giant King Þrym and that stopped the medallion from being corrupted and ending the quest.

Tsubaki is Makoto's second eldest sister, and she's 24 years old. She's a a biology teacher that comes to work at Makoto's and Ito's school under her father's orders to spy on him. Of all her other siblings, she does all that her father asks. She was the one who was able to ease his influence on the house when Sakura had left, and thus has a bit of a grudge towards her elder sister. Tsubaki is obsessed with Makoto (she has pictures of him all over her room walls), and so she too wants to bring him back home under the impression that she knows what is best for him as his older sister. During his younger years, he was very close to her, calling her "Tsubaki-chan" and it is clear that she still clings to the memories of him as a little boy. Strangely enough, she sends Makoto frilly dresses every so often, though she clearly disapproves of his bet with their father. She's a firm and straightforward person, with a frightening ability to lead, demonstrated when she trains her class to be ultimate athletes to win the inter-class athletic tournament. She has a bit of a shota complex, and was disappointed when she found out Ito was a girl. Tsubaki accidentally finds out about Ito and Makoto's relationship and orders Makoto to come home as his deal with his father was broken, but relents at Makoto's pleading. She backs off, on the condition that Ito and Makoto's class wins an inter-class athletic competition, which they narrowly lose. However, with Akane's help, they recreate a scene from Beauty and the Beast for Tsubaki and manage to persuade her that Makoto's passion for his acting is very real and that he and Ito love each other dearly. She finally promises not to tell their father and eventually leaves the school. She is the opposite of her older sister Sakura in that she has an obsession with pretty boys. Tsubaki means "camellia." Riko Tsukimi is the homeroom teacher for Tooru and Julie in Kouryou Academy. She has just graduated as a student from Kouryou then became a teacher. She knows all of Sakuya's secrets and is also an acquaintance of her. Since Tooru has a duo of the opposite gender, most of her perverted jokes are directed towards him, which causes misunderstandings around him. Rito has two personalities. The white Usa-sensei (usagi-sensei) and the black Usa-sensei. (Nickname given by the students when she reveals her true nature). The white Usa-sensei is the good girl and cheerful one who always plays innocent. The black Usa-sensei is the foul-mouthed teacher that is always angry. That is mostly the true nature of Rito who is a war freak. The only common thing between the two personalities is that they both always tease Tooru about perverted things that cause misunderstanding.
