Sofia is a voluptuous private detective and former KGB agent suffering from amnesia. She entered the first Toshinden tournament to recover her past and eventually learned that her memory had been tampered with by the Secret Society. When she heard that another fighter, Chaos, was suffering from the same fate as her, she entered the second tournament in hopes of saving him. Although she was unsuccessful in her mission, she managed to help bring down the fall of the Secret Society. Sofia would eventually discover that she was being targeted by the Organization, and she entered the third tournament hosted by it, in order to help destroy the Organization. Even though Sofia had realized that she would never get back her old memories, she decided to move on and create new memories so that can finally be free from her personal sorrow.
Machi is the sister of Manji who was driven insane after Manji killed her husband, Tatsumasa Saitou.

She is able to maintain four at once, impressing both Nurarihyon and fellow onmyoji. She was trained by Akifusa, who raised her to see yokai as evil. She seeks to complete her training by defeating Nurarihyon and then inheriting leadership of the Keikain household. After spending time with Rikuo and being exposed to his yokai form, she begins to see how yokai are similar to people in that they are not all good or evil. She is a frugal girl who doesn't mind eating food that has fallen on the floor and is glad her shikigami don't require food. Her stomach growls at inopportune moments, but she doesn't seem to mind.
She was introduced in episode 6 as an elegant, highly intelligent, and admired student of Oso Girl's Academy, and the head of the school's art club. Behind her facade, however, is a psychopath, whose obsession in killing her fellow students and using their bodies to construct grotesque works of art was influenced by her father's artworks. The art is then displayed in the city at points of high exposure underneath Holographic Illuminations. Before she could be captured by the Bureau, she is killed by an associate of Makishima who then turned her bones into a set of smoking pipes. Makishima was the man who gave her the tools required to enable her to perform her murders. Her father was in a hospital in a catatonic state, caused by an excess of stress management eventually halting his body's response to any stimuli.
