A man with an eccentric personality who is Shinra's father. His behaviour is odd to the point that he wears a Gas Mask, he says: "Tokyo air is very filthy." and that's the reason why he wears it. He has also a habit of spinning a pen in his right hand. While his personality ranges from childish for comic relief up to a somewhat intimidating one(especially around Izaya and Namie), he is the one who offered Celty a home to stay, in exchange for performing surgery on her, to which she agreed. He is in fact the one who made Shinra participate in multiple dissections, which he believes are the reason why Shinra is so twisted now. It is revealed that he is the one who stole Celty's head using the cursed blade Saika to cut the soul that binds together head and body. After that he sold the sword to an acquaintance while handing over Celty's head to Namie's father. He claims his company,Nebula executives are interested in Celty and that is why he returned to Japan from America.

Jolly yet armed with a sardonic wit, Shingen is a wizened and charming elder who has seen his fair share of wars. While no one has seen his entire face, his outgoing nature hardly keeps his thoughts from being a mystery to others, often bellowing a hearty laugh. Aware of his age, he tends to joke about teaching a lesson to the "youngsters" around him. His endless supply of tactics and eagerness to change makes him a liable danger to his rivals for power. In spite of his reputation, he strives to create allies at every opportunity and avoids annihilating his opponents whenever possible. He admires his own people greatly, apologizing to them if they fall due to his carelessness or choosing to avoid bloodshed if too many of his men are defeated. To him, Kenshin is an interesting, young oddity who has the potential to surpass him someday. Their encounters keep him entertained, even if he takes small jabs at Kenshin for calling him "Nemesis." He extends the same regard towards Ujiyasu, though the latter retorts that Shingen's too old-fashioned to be his friend. Accepting the negative comments Ujiyasu throws at him, he nevertheless thinks fondly of their ties together. He finds promise with Sakon's progress, choosing to have the younger man join as a result. Saturn appears in Seto no Hanayome OVA as an old friend of Seto San who pays a visit to the school.

Hideyoshi Sarutobi, often referred to as Saru, is a friend of Nagasumi who is often portrayed as a perverted monkey (a pun on his name; "saru" meaning monkey). He later became Kai's "servant" and always protects and helps him when he is in need (although reasons are more likely because of his fortune).
