Kantai is secretly the general of the province of Baku. He is a hanjyuu that can take the form of a large bear, and he is incredibly strong, even in human form. He saves Shoukei after she ran from the soldiers who sought to arrest her after she threw a rock at Gahou's executioners. Kantai seeks to expose the corruption of Gahou, and he sends Shoukei to the intermediate village of Houkaku to provide touki weapons to the Shisui rebels. Suzu arrives there to take the weapons to Takuhou. When Kantai realizes that his allies in Shisui will be wiped out by Gahou, he sends his own forces to intervene. Shoukei accompanies him and seeks out Suzu to inform the Shisui rebels that Kantai is on their side. When Koushou insists on saving Takuhou from fire, Kantai is shamed into helping him despite his doubts. When Youko asks Kantai what reward he wants for fighting corruption, Kantai asks for pardon for his lord Koukan. After Gahou is defeated, Youko places Kantai in charge of Kei's entire army.
Enho is a wise man who lives in the city of Hokui in the province of Ei, where Keiki is the provincial leader. When Youko decides that she knows too little about her kingdom to rule wisely, Keiki sends her to Enho to study. Among the citizens of Kei, only Youko, Keiki, and Enho know of this arrangement. When she arrives, Enho's rike is under attack by youma, and she acts to save Enho and the rike's other residents, but only Enho, a girl named Rangyoku, and her brother Keikei survive. When Youko leaves to visit Takuhou and Meikaku, the rike is attacked by Shoukou's men; Rangyoka is killed, Keikei is injured, and Enho is abducted and taken to Gahou. Youko moves to rescue Enho and learns from Suzu that Shoukou has taken Enho. When she captures Shoukou, he reveals that Enho is held by Gahou. Enho is rescued when Youko sends the royal army to attack Gahou.
Sourin is the kirin and Saiho of the kingdom of Sou, which has prospered for six hundred years under the rule of Senshin. Out of affection for her, she is nicknamed "Shou-Shou" by the members of Senshin's family. Like all kirin, Sourin is naturally benevolent; Senshin's family describes Sourin as being capable of caring even for the most terrible villain in the world. Regardless, she shows relief that Rikou has returned safely from his latest outing in the world and she is very much regarded as a member of Senshin's family. She has the appearance of a young girl and, characteristic of kirin, she has gold hair. In episode 21 of the anime, Enki notes that it was Sourin who first located him in Hourai. Little else is known about Sourin, though Shoryu mentions to Enki in the last chapter of The Twelve Kingdoms: The Vast Spread of the Seas that she is rumoured to be very refined. (Source: wikia)
He is the son of Chou, previous Emperor of Kou. He and his sister were the prince and princess of Kou. They elect to remove themselves from the Divine Registry after their father passes away and volunteered themselves into work brigades to help maintain the kingdom until the next king ascends. Risetsu, is the kirin of the kingdom of Han. She has served her ruler, Go Ranjou, for 300 years and has the appearance of an innocent young girl, though is known for being mischievous. The pair get along extremely well and Ranjou fondly refers to her as his "princess," showering her with gifts and indulging her tantrums. Risetsu travels to Kei with her master as his attendant when the search for Taiki begins. To avoid revealing her true identity, she borrows the koseisan, a sacred treasure from her king that allows her to appear as someone an onlooker wishes to see; for Youko, Hanrin's immediate appearance resembles Youko's late friend, Rangyoku. She joins Keiki, Enki, and Renrin to search for Taiki in Hourai and offers the use of Han's royal treasure, the kouyoukyou, a mirror that dematerializes the image of the person or creature it reflects and allows infinite replication, though the replicas are limited in terms of capability. When Taiki is found, she is horrified to learn how Taiki's shirei have become defiled from living in Hourai so long. After Taiki is brought back to the Twelve Kingdoms, she and Ranjou return to Han.
She is the mother of Rakushun and citizen of Kou. When Rakushun brought wounded Youko to their home, she helped to nurse her. After she had recovered and not knowing who to trust, Youko was afraid that she might report about her to the soldiers of Kou. After Keiki's rescue and her return to Kei, Youko goes on a trip and visits Rakushun's mother in order to thank her for her kindness.
Gyokuyo is the personal handmaiden of Youko when she reigns as the monarch of Kei. She ranks high amongst the palace staff and is trusted with ensuring Youko's well-being for domestic matters, and has served the kingdom for a long time. While she appears to be a woman in middle age, Gyokuyo's age is unknown and it is implied that she is much older than she seems. Prior to becoming Youko's personal maid, Gyokuyo served in the Ministry of Spring and was involved in administrating the kingdom's education system, though she was removed from her position late in the reign of Jokaku when the late ruler banished all the women from Kei. Though Youko remarks that she thinks it would be good for Gyokuyo to re-enter the administration, Gyokuyo tells her that she is satisfied with serving as Youko's maid. (Source: 12kingdoms.wikia)
