Ri Seiryuu, who is found on a little rescue boat, along with another shipwrecked man, is more than just a cast away. Rescued as a little boy, by a fishing boat, the crew as well as the captain notice that something is wrong with the boy. He never smiles and behaves odd towards others. The Captain of the fishing boat decides to try an experiment with the boy. Until he smiles, he is not allowed to get out. Seiryuu is forced to live seperated from the crew. The room, he gets locked up in, is small but full of books, a TV and videos. Information about mankind and how it behaves on the planet. He grows up in a room filled with knowledge about killing, destroying and hate, and is kept there until his body has matured.

Ikki Tenryou is a lively and easygoing boy, although a bit timid. At first Ikki is unable to afford a Medarot. But after finding a medal in a river, he manages to buy a model, which is named Metabee. However, the medal he found appears to be defective, as Metabee is stubborn and disobedient. In spite of this, a strong bond grows between them after several robattles.
