Kino is the lead character in the story and is described as being around 15 years old with short black hair, large eyes and a fearless face. Kino usually wears a black jacket, brown overcoat, white shirt, goggled cap and wide belt with lots of pouches—using special gear depending on the weather or season as necessary. Kino travels with the motorrad, Hermes. The two have a contract—Kino provides the balance, Hermes provides the speed, and together they can travel anywhere they wish. Kino is an excellent marksman with deadly speed and accuracy, and is typically armed with two large-caliber pistols. On the journeys with Hermes, they both try and stay neutral to the situations they come across and avoid getting into other people's business. It is revealed in episode 4 of the anime and the final chapter of volume 1 of the light novel series that Kino is a female. Her name "Kino" is actually the name of the traveler who saved her as a child and caused her to take to her current lifestyle. Her actual birth name is left unstated throughout both the show and LN but there are implications in the anime that it is "Sakura."
Dr. Mashirito is an evil scientist and the rival of Senbei Norimaki. He creates many robots named Caramelmen to try and surpass Arale's power but fails in his attempts. Obotchaman was one of his Carmalman but reverted to the good side.
Birthday: January 14 Reserved and timid almost to a fault, Toujou is the mystery girl Manaka has been seeking out (the girl with the strawberry panties). She excels in studies but is not very noticed at her middle school because of her large glasses and unattractive hairstyle. Her beauty was only brought out after she started wearing contact lenses and letting her hair down. Her career goal is to become a novelist. A gifted writer, she manages to win several prestigious awards for her compositions despite her youth. She is also the script writer for the movies of the Film Studies Club, and was the first person Manaka shared his dreams with. During the final school festival, she was considered by the Astrological Research Club's "Love Sanctuary" attraction to be the best person suited for Manaka. Associated with the East ("Tou").
Hermes is a Brough Superior motorrad (a two-wheeled vehicle that cannot fly but moves in the direction it's pointed—in other words, a motorcycle) who travels around with Kino. Hermes provides the speed that allows them to go anywhere they wish. Aside from his speed and capacity for toting about large amounts of luggage (Kino never seems to travel light), Hermes doesn't really have many other qualities except for constantly mixing up quotes and complaining. He is also rather gullible, trusting Kino absolutely even when Kino is teasing him, which leads him to grumble and complain some more. Perhaps his most famous line is "I'm bored." The motorrad is in many ways naive and innocent, and acts very child-like, which tends to be a sharp contrast to Kino's more mature and worldly bearing. Bowser is Mario's archnemesis. He is the leader and most powerful of the turtle-like Koopa race. Although Bowser has joined forces with Mario in a few games, he is considered a "bad guy" due to his ambition to kidnap and dethrone Princess Peach and conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. Though their origins are unknown, Bowser has eight children; the seven Koopalings and Bowser Jr. Bowser, or King Koopa, is perhaps most famous for his repeated kidnappings of Princess Peach. The reason for these kidnappings is often part of his plan to take over the Mushroom Kingdom. He has several types of troops under his command, including Koopas, Goombas, and Piranha Plants. Bowser's appearance has been tweaked several times throughout the series, but most of basic overall look has been consistent. He looks something like a cross between a turtle and a dragon. He is bipedal and able to walk around on two legs. Both his feet and his hands have large claws. He is noticably larger than all the other characters. He is mostly yellow with a green shell. Several large spikes are located both on his tail and on his shell. He sports a tuft of red hair on top of his head. Although his abilities vary from game to game, he is able to breathe fire in most of them.
The greatest bishoku-ya in human history and bishokushin (Gourmet God), as well as the combo partner of Frohze, he discovered countless ingredients all over the world. Including the Gourmet Jellyfish from which he discovered the Gourmet Cells, and is the first and only person to find the ingredient GOD, taking a long time to do so and only able to discover it in his final years. Distributing GOD to the leaders of every nation, he manages to end a centuries-long war between all the nations of the world, and bring about the current Gourmet Age. Near the end of his life, Acacia took three disciples: Ichiryu, the current president of the IGO, the "Knocking Master" Jiro, and Midora (the boss of the Bishokukai). While he did teach them many hunting techniques that were to become the basis of their greatness in their present day, he told them nothing about GOD, sensing that in the same way how it was used to end a war, it would be used to begin another. Being called the "Bishokushin", or Gourmet God, Acacia is worshipped by the people of the world. His golden statue is located in a gigantic temple called the "Gourmet Temple", which is visited by roughly 9 billion people every day, trying to get lucky and successful in their lives.
