The title character, Maruko (born May 8 1965), is a nine-year-old third-grade student raised in a relatively poor family of six. She is lazy, disorganized and usually late for school, in strong contrast with her neat, calm and tidy older sister (sixth-grader) who must share her room with her. Maruko, like many kids, tries to avoid homework and chores, and she takes advantage of her doting grandfather and squabbles with her sister. Momoko is a strange and hyperactive young girl who is also a martial artist in a special form of martial arts that only members of the twelve Zodiac Masters of Japan can learn. She is associated with the dragon of the Chinese zodiac. She wants to become K�shi's bride in order to produce a strong son with him, as her father told her that since she is a female, she is currently unable to master her family's martial arts techniques effectively. Momoko shares a strange relationship with K�shi which has been compared to that of a dog and its master in the series itself. Momoko is very adamant about getting married with K�shi, and often tries to do the best she can to please him in any way.

The main female lead, who has to attend an all-boys school in place of her twin brother due to him running away from school. She does very poorly in school, due to the fact that "stress" causes her to daydream and she therefor does not pay attention in class, though she gets tutored by Itou and quickly improves. After being saved multiple times by Itou, she declares his love for him, though he is too embarrassed at the time to respond to the confession. At the end of the series she switches back with Akira, deciding to take a new first step in her relationship with Itou, as a girl. (Source: Wikipedia)

A young woman who just graduated from design school and gets her first work at a pachinko design brand. Although she doesn't like her work, she has a cheerful disposition. She develops a crush on Masashi and eventually starts dating him.
