Height: 158 cm Black★Rock Shooter is the titular character and main protagonist of many projects, including the anime OVA Black★Rock Shooter, the RPG of the same name, the anime series and the manga Black★Rock Shooter ~Innocent Soul~. She was an original concept created by huke who participated in the release of the song "Black★Rock Shooter" by supercell. Original Concept: Black★Rock Shooter's original design is of a pale-skinned, blue-eyed girl, with black hair in uneven twintails; the right lock of her hair is shorter than her left. She bears two scars on her midriff. A blue flame shoots out from her left eye. Her clothes consist of a string bikini top under a black jacket. The jacket has a white stripe running along the length of each of her sleeves and has a white star design on the front (left side) and back. She also wears a pair of tight-fitting shorts, gloves, and black knee-high boots. Her weapons consist of a black-hilted katana later named as Black Blade and a large gun called ★rock Cannon. She is the "other self" of Mato in the other world. OVA: A shot of Black★Rock Shooter from the OVA, showing her signature blue flame. The OVA adaptation added some details to Black★Rock Shooter. Unlike in her original design, her eyes have a concentric circle pattern, a trait she shares with other characters in the OVA. Black★Rock Shooter is also given a personality in the OVA. She is depicted as a calm and collected girl, not speaking at all until her confrontation with Mato, near the end of the OVA. She also does not focus on anything except the most important thing she has to do at the moment. She is shown to be very skilled in fighting, despite being quickly taken down by Black★Gold Saw in her first shown battle. Black★Rock Shooter is able to fight evenly with Dead Master, despite appearing to try not to hurt her. Anime Adaptation: Black★Rock Shooter has been redesigned for the anime, with some new elements possibly inspired by the designs of White Rock Shooter and Black★Rock Shooter Beast, as her new jacket and boots (which are now more blue than black) have similarities to both WRS' and B★RSB's clothing. Like her hairstyle in the PSP game, her hairstyle is spikier compared to her OVA appearance. She no longer has any scar on her midriff. She wears her trademark hood more often than she does in other media. Black★Rock Shooter in the anime seems to be more brutal than any other B★RS incarnation, having beheaded Chariot and Arata's possible other self, and killed Dead Master. Black★Rock Shooter (OVA) Despite the little screentime the interaction between Hiro and Mato seems to be the typical stubborn sibling relationship. When Mato's mother tells her to wake up Hiro, Mato moans in protests but does so, stating that Hiro never listens to her when she tries to wake him up. Her mother simply says Onee-chan, a tone reminds Mato that she is his big sister. Mato's method to wake up her brother was to open the door and give the order that school started that day, when Hiro doesn't respond she states that its not her fault if he is late and upon leaving gives him the raspberry. After Mato leaves, Hiro awakes (somewhat) and stares at his alarm clock, only to collapse into a sleepy heap. Black★Rock Shooter (Anime) Hiro continues to have a very small role, occasionally bothering his sister. He doesn't like her sister speak to him in public because he feels embarrassed. Despite he doesn't have a good relationship with his sister, he likes her a lot. In episode 7, Hiro is asked what does he thinks of his sister. His answer was: "¿My sister? She is always distracted, loses things very fast and is very annoying... but I think that my sister is a good person. Appearance Hiro, like his mother, has short brown hair and blue eyes. He is seen wearing a blue rugby shirt and dark green shorts. Naturally in being a little brother, his short stature is more apparent than Mato, during dinner he is sitting on cushion as to be level with the table. (Wikipedia)
Height: 160 cm Yomi is a gentle, good-natured girl who speaks politely and calmly; she is very mature for her age. Her name literally means "No hawks, where little birds play." She is supposedly a member of a well-to-do family, staying for some time in Germany before moving to Mato's neighborhood. She also revealed that her frequent moving from one place to another has caused her to develop a sort of distant attitude towards others. However, she is prone to having very dark feelings of loneliness and jealousy; she tends to keep these to herself. In the 2012 anime, Yomi's personality is somewhat different in that while she is still calm, reserved, and polite, she is also extremely aloof to the point where she is unwilling to make friends. Part of this is her attachment to Kagari Izuriha, both due to the fact that she blames herself for Kagari's injury and because catering to all of Kagari's demands was initially easier than coping with the mental trauma. Unlike her OVA incarnation, she is more interested in things like art and bracelet making. Like Mato, she likes the book Li'l Bird Colorful Colors.
Height: 158 cm Strength is Yuu's darken persona in the other world. She wears long black boots similar to Black Rock Shooter's, black spandex and a white flamed embroidered hooded scarf. She has a vertebra like tail with white hair. Her main weapons are her two large black "Ogre Fists" that she wears over her arms and are as big as she is. In the TV series, she gained emotions when she established a connection with Yuu just as she was about to die following a fight with Black Rock Shooter. When Yuu preferred to live in her world than reality, Strength was forced to switch bodies with Yuu, although she doesn't cast a shadow. She inserted false memories of herself into Mato to make it seem like they've been friends for a long time, though she eventually came to like Mato herself. She has the ability to put herself or others into a comatose state, sending their mind into the body of their darken persona. At the series conclusion, she disappears into the wind, returning Yuu to her original body, although she revives later on to continue fighting. (Source: Wikipedia)
Height: 155 cm Kuroi Mato is a black-haired school girl with blue eyes. She likes playing Basketball. She takes an interest in, and speaks to a girl she sees the first day, Takanashi Yomi. They became the best friends. Black★Rock Shooter (OVA) Mato is a black-haired school girl with blue eyes. She has short, choppy pig tails and wears a seifuku consisting of a white top with a dark blue collar and a dark blue skirt. She also wears black knee-high socks. She is also seen to have a patch of bandage on her right knee, after obtaining an injury from basketball practice. Many of her belongings, including her clothes, phone charm, and room decorations, have a star motif. She is an innocent and naive first year student in middle school. Outwardly, she is outgoing and excitable, but she is very awkward around people she does not know. Internally, she is sensitive and meek, but eventually learns to gain courage. Black★Rock Shooter (Anime) Mato retains most of her appearance from the OVA, aside from wearing a different, non-seifuku school uniform. The patch of bandage on her right knee is gone, though she now has a bandaid on her right thigh. She is fond of philosophical musings, and often will vaguely say something that she sees (for instance, remarking "blooming" when seeing a patch of flowers) to no one in particular. Saya also describes her as the kind of person who has, until now, never hated anyone or have anyone hate her. Her favorite food is said to be curry. She is very fond of the book "Li'l Bird Li'l Bird Colorful Colors" and reads it repeatedly.
Height: 150 cm Black★Rock Shooter (OVA) Yuu has choppy tawny hair and hazel eyes. She is also very short in stature, much more so than Mato or Yomi. She wears the same school uniform as the former and latter. Yuu is excitable and perky; however, she is shown to have a dark side. She is also very possessive of Mato, and has an awkward time whenever she is hanging out with Yomi. Black★Rock Shooter (Anime) Yuu's hair is more combed down, and not as choppy as it was in the anime. She also now wears an orange hairclip on her left side, and wears a school uniform different from her OVA appearance. Similar to her OVA incarnation, she is excitable and perky; she is also eager to tease Mato often. Unlike her OVA incarnation, however, she is perfectly comfortable with the idea of Mato having other friends, and in fact actively teases Mato about her friendship with "her Tiny Bird". She is fond of skipping classes in favor of drinking coffee at the consultation room. Mato notes that she is trying to be mature for some reason, and indeed she takes concern over Mato's well-being. Mato also says that when she knew her in kindergarten, she was excessively more hyper, and often did "weird things". However, this personality is of Strength, who was in Yuu's body in the real world. The real Yuu, who was in Strength's body in the Otherworld, was a stoic and silent person who was constantly hurt by bullying and familial problems, and had a vast amount of knowledge of the "other selves" and the Otherworld. Though it seemed as if the pain didn't affect her, she was actually heavily affected by it, to the point where she switched places with Strength because the pain Strength had to endure in the Otherworld was much simpler, only needing to fight and not worry about anything else.
Height: 167 cm Dead Master has black hair and straight bangs, and neon green eyes. Her clothes consist of a simple Gothic lolita costume. She wears a black dress and a black bolero; her dress extends down to her thighs and is accented with a white ribbon attached to her waist. Dead Master also wears a pair of leggings and a pair of black pumps. She wears a pair of black gauntlets on each hand. On her head is a pair of long horns which resemble a pair of vertebrae with each tip made out of three tips joined at the end. Also has a pair of wings which sit low on her back. She fights with Dead Scythe, and she can also use chains. She is also the "other self" of Yomi Takanashi in the other world.
